Broken Door Handle

The door handle can easily be replaced on MOST microwave ovens by removing the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and replace the door handle:

The average cost for a replacement handle usually runs about $20 - $40. Replacements (if required) may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided.
The door handle is a simple repair that can be done with the door in place, or removed. And, you do not have to uninstall the oven if this is an over the range model.

It would help, however, to know the number of the microwave oven you are referring to. All ovens are not designed the same and are assembled in different ways. If it's just the bottom one and you don't want to disassemble things to reconnect things right, drill a pilot hole in at an angle through handle and door to permit screwing in a wood screw to fix it up.  Brutish, yet sexy.

Check out this door frame diagram, specifically number 1805. It clips on to the door frame. Remove it using a dull table knife or something similar (be careful not to scratch or break anything). You will then have access to the bottom screw.

bogus...use a Torx driver to remove the door screws...careful of the glass. Replace the handle and reassemble. You may want to take digital pictures along the way. Parts available from ge or other online parts guys.

1) Have to remove the door first; top of the oven there are two screws closest to the door, take those out. and the door should lift out
2) flip the door on the table with the handle side down. starting on the handle side there are three clips (top, middle, and bottom) between the outside casing and inside trim. Using a thin screwdriver gently twist starting at either the top or bottom to pod the two casings apart. work your way around the door.
3) You should see one of the screws that hold the handle on (top) but the bottom screw is under the metal casing so you need to remove the screws around this casing as well to get the other handle screw off.
Once you start you will see it isn't as bad as this sounds. I bought the handle for $40.
It is a shame that this is so cheap and breaks off this easily. Surprisingly we have had ours for at least 6 years before the handle broke and we have 3 girls opening and closing this all the time so I guess I was one of the lucky ones.
