Door handle broke off. Can I replace it?

If you repair a door assy. you are required per DHHS rules to perform a leak test on and around the door after such repair.

You will have to remove and disassemble the door. Look for a rubber or plastic cover that will be hiding the screws. The screws MAY be Torx or "star" requiring a special Torx tool. Torx available where ever fine tools are sold. It might also be #2 Phillips.

Don't try to use an allen key if it is a Torx, you will ruine your key and the head of the screw.

The door handle can easily be replaced without the assistance of a repairman. This is a common problem with some microwave oven doors.
If you have not purchased a new door handle yet, the part number is 8205431 (White), 8205433 (Black), 8205432 (Biscuit) or 8185456 (Stainless). A new one can be purchased at pcappliancerepair.com for about $40-46. Make sure you order using the correct part number to ensure you get the right color.

To access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, simply open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.

Of course it is.  You can glue it on with gorilla glue, perhaps using a screw shaft (be sure to drill pilot holes) like a dowel in carpentry to secure and add area for the glue to adhere to.  Drill the pilot hole in the handle bit the thread diameter rather than the shaft diameter, so you don't have to screw the handle on once you cut off the screw head.

You remove door latch (nr 3 on diagram) first, then you unscrew the screw nr .8 and remove handle (nr.7).

Check out this door frame diagram, specifically number 1805. It clips on to the door frame. Remove it using a dull table knife or something similar (be careful not to scratch or break anything). You will then have access to the bottom screw.
