I am having difficulty with the needle threader automatically lining up with the needle on my Pfaff 2170. It should automatically align. Can it be adjusted?

This is called the Needle Threader Plate.
If this is too small for you to read, or you want any more help with this, just post back here, or, drop a line through the "Contact Us" page at www.bargainbox.com.au

The small hook that passes through the eye of the needle is bent or broken. If it is only bent it can be straightened with a small screw driver. If it is broken it will need to be replaced. Most dealers can get this part for you for about $5.00

I believe if you lower the needle all the way into the case when you adjust that, you should be able to find a happy medium.
SOURCE: Can I replace the needle threader on a Pfaff 2056
It would be a two minute job for the Pfaff repair chap to do this....ring and check availability and ask for a quote, in our shop I would not charge to do this as you would be coming back for other goodies anyway, so it is just good business not to squeeze every last cent when word spreads of how reasonable and accommodation we were..
Phone and ask, save the stress.

SOURCE: The timing on my Pfaff
Needle must be all the way up and the long groove must be facing out.(1) Bring the needle to its lowest position and then raise the needle 2 mm (5/64 inch) by rotating thepulley, toward the front of the machine.(2) Check that the point of the sewing hook is at the top of needle eye in the center of the needle. If it isnot, remove the face plate (para. 4-23) and loosen the needle bar clamp screw. Move the needlebar, as necessary, and retighten the screws.(3) Check that the rotary hook point is at the center line of the needle. Loosen the two setscrews goinginto the shaft and rotate the rotary hook assembly as needed.(4) Tighten the rotary hook setscrew and recheck all settings.(5) Rotate pulley toward the front of the unit to ensure there is no interference or binding.
The timing is done either by adjusting the slide on the hook drive shaft or the gear. Grub screws attach these parts to the shaft and the above sketch shows the ideal timed position of the needle and the hook. Further instructions appear below.
