SOURCE: Need to remove top cover of GE WPXQ3090T2WW top load washer

There should be 2 screws holding it on at the rear. Looking from the rear these will be at each top corner. Once these are removed push the lid from the front of the machine towards the rear and it will pop off.

SOURCE: How do I remove the selector knob on washer

The main selector control know spins off by turning the selector inner knob counterclockwise. The outer ring will then pull off. The other knobs are held on with friction and should just pull off.

The best way to get behind the front panel is by removing the top panel of the machine. There should be 2 gray/solver tabs at the back of the machine near the top if you remove the 2/4 screws from the top then the whole top panel will slide forward then lift off.

Be sure to unplug the machine first.

SOURCE: timer switch on GE washer

You don't state your exact model number, and the number off the timer is not the actual part number (it's some sort of part stamping number). Most likely what has happened is a plastic tab on the timer housing (which normally goes into a slot in the metal, and thus holds the timer at that point) has broken off. The fix is to replace the timer, but instead of buying a new timer, I usually fashion a Z type piece of metal which I can put one screw though into the metal and the other side holding the timer against the metal. Takes a little work, but it's a lot cheaper than a new timer.
If you want to take the timer knob off, you have to pull it out and use a thin tool, like a small screwdriver, to push the plastic clip off the shaft behind the knob, allowing the knob to then come off the shaft. Push the clip back on the knob when off, so that all you have to do to reinstall the knob is push it on and it will lock on the shaft again.

SOURCE: GE top loading washer does not spin out water

The belt could be broken, if not. Unplug washer for 2 minutes, plug back in, open and close lid 7 times, this should reset electronic motor.

The dial to select wash cycle (GE top load washer) seems loose. It is difficult to turn, as if something is not engaging. Any suggestions?

The knob wears out and won't grab. It is easy enough to replace if you know the trick. Take pair of tweezers and remove the clip behind the knob, just push on the replacement knob and oil the timer then move the timer around several times to help the shaft turn easier.b8e8a25.jpg

I am replacing the washer timer and do not unserstand how to remove the front dial knobs FEA831FS

Hello HmKm, You should be able to just pull the knobs straight off the control stems. Once you have them off, there are a couple of screws on the angled section just above the washer lid. Remove them and you will be able to access the washer controls.

Before you go working on the parts, to remove the control timer, please unplug the stacked washer/dryer combo and turn the water offl. Now you can remove the two screws (that are behind the timer knob) to free it from the metal control panel. Depending on your model, there might be another mounting strap inside the unit that holds the timer in place. If so, remove those screws and you shoud be able to drop the timer down and remove the wiring connection plugs and take out the faulty timer. Now simply push the wiring plugs onto the new timer and reinstall.

Close everything up, reversing the procedures above and turn the power back on and the water and you should be able to use the washer/dryer as normal.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

How do I remove the Washer Control Knob from a Kenmore compact stack washer dryer?

If you suspect you have a defective timer it can easily be replaced by performing the following steps:

1. Unplug washing machine... and pull out the timer knob. Some knobs have a removeable center cap and hidden screw. Some are simply slip-fit. Remove the knob.

2. Remove console. This can be accomplished in one of two ways depending on which type of console you have.

a. If the console has removable end caps, the caps lift off by prying on the top from the back of the washer.
The cap will pull off towards you as you are facing the unit from the front of the washer.
There will be a screw under each end cap that you will need to remove.

b. If the console does not have removable end caps, you will need to slide a putty knife under the front corner of each side and push in while lifting up.
There is a retaining clip under each side that has to be released.

3. Once the console has been released it will lift up and fold back over the back of the washer in its resting position. Use care not to stress the small plastic hinges that hold it on. They can break easily.

4. Disconnect all power plugs and remove the timer's mounting screws.

5. Reinstall reverse of removal.

The timer knob spins freely and I can't start the machine or set the timer.

"Can I replace it with a new knob or do I have to buy a new timer?"

It sounds like the knob is rounded out where it fits on the timer post, or It may just be loose. Pull the knob off and inspect it. If damaged, yes, you can buy another one.

Timer Knob

The clip pulls straight up off the shaft directly behind the knob. You can use a small screwdriver or a pair of needlenose pliers to pull it out. Once the clip is removed the knob will slide off the timer shaft.
