Installed Newer Cable Modem, Linksys router not working
I just installed a newer model modem from comcast and it works fine, but when I try to get my Linksys router working again, I am unable to get it working. I do not have the original set-up disk that came with the linksys router. Any help would be great, thanks.

Change the wireless network name and then change the key. Try to connect to the new wireless network and see if that works. If not then you can try to upgrade the firmware of your Linksys router. After upgrading the firmware, reset the router and reconfigure it.
The trick about all this is that the software does not configure the computer, but the modem. So once it has been configured through a computer then plugged to a router, any computer plugged to the said router will have access to the Internet.
The whole process of installing/configuring will happen if you replace the old modem and/or plug a new computer directly to the modem.
Router setup If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then: Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem. Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPPOe.
Using your web browser go to URL address http://192.168.1.1. You will then be prompted to login to your router. A log-in screen asking for the password will automatically appear. At this time enter the default password “admin”, in lower case letters into the password field. The username field may be left blank at this time. (Note: both the default username and default password are set to “admin” on some of the newer Linksys router models).
Router setup Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the Comcast cd installed. then: Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem. Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. Did Comcast reset you wireless router settings? If so, you may need to set up your SSID and security settings.
Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the Linksys router may cause conflict with other Linksys routers within your network range. Linksys suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.
To change the router’s SSID or the wireless network’s name, click here. To change the router’s channel, click here. To enable the wireless security on the router, click here. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe
Hi Susie With related to your particular issue it seems like that your broadband modem is not configured for the router. There are basically 2 types of connection. DSL and Cable modem. Verizon, ATT are DSL and comcast other providers give you a normal cable broadband connection. If its comcast make sure the cable from the comcast modem is going to the internet port in the linksys router and also make sure that there is a system connection the linksys router and the cable from the system goes to any of LAN 1, 2, 3 and 4 ports. Then reset your cable modem by using a pin and inserting to the reset hole in the modem. You could use the same step to reset your linksys router as well .If its a verizon or dsl connection you need to put normally your username and password in the router page. here is the link to how to configure linksys for your internet modem. Here is a video as well on it? http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=vSAXMO7aNzg http://tinyurl.com/5tqqhl
Also post the linksys router model. your ISP modem model number and also information on how many systems are wired to the router and wireless and let me know if you need more help.
If your planning to connect the phone adapter behind a router make sure that the following ports are open/forwarded on the router; UDP ports 5060-5061, UDP ports 16384-32767 take note that 5060 and 5051 one are SIP ports and must be assigned to the IP address of that was assigned to by the router to the adapter or the IP that was manually configured on it.
I found a link that could help you check the setting on your linksys phone adapter
* have you tried connecting desktop and laptop straight to the router? (because with your statement you only connect both computers straight to the modem and only the laptop works fine).
