Upload pictures from a memory card

I recently moved and do not have the manual for my laptop. I would like to upload pictures from my memory card and I'm not sure where to begin. Do I need to have them on a CD first? Any help would be great!

Thank you!

    Thanks!

Importing pictures

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Pictures will not upload to laptop.

I had a similar problem recently - the computer wasn't even recognising that it was plugged in. I eventually took the battery out and charged it up, then later it worked perfectly. I hope this is helpful to you.

Memory card fault or camera fault?

When the camera writes the image files to the memory card, it also creates index/information files. Without those files the camera will not display the images.

Check the software you used to upload the images with. There's probably a checkbox or option that tells it to delete the images from the card after uploading them.

My Olympus FE-170 won't upload pictures.

Format your camera's internal memory and also format any memory cards you insert.
Use a program called Recover4All to see exactly what is in your camera's internal memory.
Then insert a memory formatted memory card and take some pictures. see if they will upload.

"Out Of Memory"

Did you copy or move the pictures from your camera? The pictures may still be in the memory card and you will have to manually delete them. The easiest way to clear the memory is to Format the card. The manual should have a procedure for formatting. Also ensure that the battery has enough juice in it. -Vish
