After installing Avast! Antivirus, my Acer Aspire 5920 Touchpad has stopped working i have tried
- uninstalling and reinstalling the driver
- installing all new updates
- system restore back to yesterday when it was working fine which also uninstalled Avast!
- i've checked the touchpad is enabled! i've even tried disabling it restarting the computer and enabling it
- the mouse works fine with a usb mouse, but the touchpad doesnt at all
i'd be grateful if anyone could shed any light on this problem!!!!!
If not a software problem then check the hardware...because you restored already the OS right?..it means, the same problem..did you installed the touchapd driver, hotkey or any application driver...if yes...means not a driver problem...it is problem with the cable in touchpad between the board connection...if you try before to open some laptop specially that model, you open and check the cable that link touchpad and mainboard....because i had same problem before..check and try...but focus first in touchpad driver, check some settings,if you cant do nothing, open and check the cable...
I have asus x54lhy and i have the same problem but there no solutions for this problem so i have give my laptop back to the company and give another one but they told me that the problem caused by avast antivirus he deleted the driver he is a bad antivirus

As by your description, the FN F7 key combo did not solve the problem. Please restart the machine , press F8 then select from the list "Safe mode" then press enter. Then see how the Touch pad reacts in Safe mode. If it works perfectly in safe mode, we can assume you have a software problem that is preventing it from working in normal windows mode.
Please download and install the latest BIOS for your machine. The E525 has a issue where the TP just stops working, upgrading the BIOS solves the issue on the E525... Acer Aspire 5920 3813 BIOS
Please install one of these drivers for the desired Operating system...
I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall touchpad drivers to isolate the issue.
Press Windows key and R.
Type devmgmt.msc in Run window and click on OK.
Click on "+" sign beside Mice and other pointing devices in Device Manager.
Right click on Touchpad and select Uninstall.
You will be prompted to restart the computer.
Windows detects touchpad and the touchpad drivers will be reinstalled automatically.
You can also install touchpad drivers from your notebook support website.
You can reinstall the drivers from the below links:
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5920.html http://www.laptops-drivers.com/acer-notebooks/download-drivers-acer-aspire-5920-notebooks.html
However I suggest you to install the drivers by visiting the acer support website.
Also perform windows update.

Hi!
I resently had the same problem on my HP laptop and search Google for possible solutions. No solution works until I tried Windovs Update and then got 5 alternatives - Synaptics PS/2 port TouchPad was one of them. I update and restart and finally solve this problem.
Try and attach a USB mouse. Then uninstall the driver. restart your computer and reinstall the driver. Also clean with some spray to make sure there is no dirt which is causing the problem.
thanks for your help!.... how do i go about opening it up and checking?
