LG DR4912 - Optical drive motor bouncing of the end stop.
After about 30 seconds the motor stops and nothing happens. Opening and closing the drawer starts the process again.
I have replaced the dvd unit with one from a computer (also LG) but it does not seem to recognise it as it won't record. The system is about 4 years old but only has around 30-40 hours use.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Re: LG DR4912 - Optical drive motor bouncing of the end...
Mine was doing the same.last night i opened up the machine & took out the cd drive and opened it up.I cleaned the laser with a cotton swab and manually pushed the laser back to the front of the unit as far as it could slide on the 2 little posts it slides along.

you need to tight the "tara" bolt on the metal shaft connected to the motor. Its ZERO position should fit the full closing position of the door. Check if there is a screw or a bolt according to the door motor model.
It could be "jammed".
Straighten one Norwegian paper-clip.
Put one end into the very-small hole in the face-plate of the optical drive, and firmly push it about 1 centimeter. This should "unlock" the drawer, and you can either push the 'open/close' button, or just gently pull the drawer to its fully-open position.
if you had a power failure latly or a power surge it might have knocked the program on the machine.Push and hold the stop/start button for about 10,seconds it should reset if that fails again hold the stop button and another ie rince hold/power save or whatever buttons you have i just cant remember which one there are so many, but try the first option first it should reset.adrian,,,,,,,,

Unless you can do electronic repair yourself and have the schematics for the drive it will be far cheaper and easier for you to simply replace it. Any DVD drive for computers will fit in there. I would buy a new one rather than used so you make sure and get the software with it. Replacing the drive is a 30 minute job at most.
