Trying to hook-up my computer to my Magnavox LCD Flat screen via HDMI to watch downloaded movies. Currently have my monitor hooked up via DVI to computer for everyday us. You must download the Driver correctly, the driver can not be installed or corrupted.. See your company supplier from PC and proceed to download. or you have instaled the driver is corrupted.
Uninstalled and installed again with new version, see if the play and plug the driver is o.k or corrupted proceed with the same technic before
God bless you

I need to connect a VGA dell monitor my Toshiba Laptop

HDMI is digital
VGA (the 15 pin connector) is analog.
If your connector has the digital to analog interface it should work, but likely it does not have that chip and thus will not work.

Your description of the problem tells me it may never work as you have it connected. Possibly it might be that the monitor is required to be powered on before the laptop is booted, but that only works in some cases.

I have also seen some work if a 2-step connector is used.
VGA to DVI connector, followed by DVI to HDMI connector.
DVI was the step toward digital that came before the HDMI standard was implemented and was only partially digital. DVI and VGA do not carry control signals nor audio. HDMI carries both those as well as the video.

YMMV but I think it would be cheaper and more efficient to actually purchase a monitor with a digital input (HDMI or DVI).
Without the digital/analog converter interface a digital output device (your laptop with HDMI out) can never operate an analog device (your Dell monitor with VGA input).

I have a Philips 47" flat screen it has HDMI

First of all you must check that your laptop supports a protocol called "DHCP" over DVI. Otherwise you are chasing your tail. This information will probably be in the manual or available online. DHCP is a special handshake protocol for HDMI and your television and computer will not talk to eachother without it. If you find it to be compatible you need to lock down which input on the TV it is. Plug something in via HDMI and verify you see it. Then unplug it and plug your computer into this port. You don't want to be flicking through inputs trying to find it. Also, hook up an external monitor to the laptop and figure what needs to be done to display on it. Then try the television. My guess, though, is that you won't find DHCP compatibility if it is an older laptop. My best advice is to buy a Playstation 3 and watch Netflix with that. Otherwise you'll need a different way of hooking up which might include buying an expensive converter box and/or watching poor quality video.

Can i connect a dvid cable from the monitor to my flat screen tv hdmi to watch videos from my computer? Thank you Martin

the Flat Screen TV if has, a HDMI input, also has VGA Input.

You must choose :HDMI or VGA, if HDMI The VGA board must Have HDMI Connector, and you connect a HDMI cable to the TV.

The HDMI is a digital signal input/output, VGA is Analog Signal. You must have Signal Converter if you Use the 2 signals

Ilo 27 inch hdmi/dvi hd tv monitor

Hi, I'm afraid that not only a cable is needed but an analog (vga) to digital (dvi) converter/scaler as well. The iLo LCD Display V27DMBX-U12 can hook up to a PC using the DVI-I connection only. As you said, your computer has the standard 1D15 pin VGA connector. Another possibility is if your video card has a composite video output (normally a color yellow RCA female) or an S-Video output which will both connect direct to your iLo LCD Display V27DMBX-U12. For the RCA connection all you need is an ordinary RCA to RCA shielded wire cable and for the S-Video, an S to S Video cable will work. There is of course the question about the quality or the resolution. Good luck and hope that this be of some help to you. Pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.

Problems connecting computer to tv via dvi

Not sure if you have fixed your problem or not. When I hook up my pc to the ILO 32 HD...I ran DVI input for picture...you can also use HDMI if you like..I had a problem with sound and had to use a splitter and run sound into AV2 IN to get sound for some reason...your no picture...if you are getting a black screen, you need to set the resolution on your pc. VGA to 640x480 and SVGA should be 800x600 and XGA should set at 1024x768..most likely the last one is the one you need..and this is not a normal pc res....set your refresh rate to 60HZ. All this is done in the control panel/display/settings tab. Also remember that you need to change your source on the TV to the proper connection to see it...ie component, HDMI etc.
