Brand new ASUS desktop DVD/CD R-W drive won't open.

The DVD/CD drive won't open. It's hid behind a face plate and when I push the tab, it clicks but won't open. On one forum site someone said that the computer thought it was reading a disk and I should unclick autoplay. I did this but it still doesn't open.

Hold the faceplate open, get a paper clip. There is a small hole in the front of the DVD/CD drive, place the paperclip in it and push slowly until the device drawer opens.

SOURCE: My ASUS computer will not read my SONY memory

You need to go to Device manager, remove ALL USB devices the whole thing.. remove and uninstall driver. then, reboot. Now at next desktop, try using the USB stick then, this often "Fixes" any problems. (Windows will auto-install the entire USB layer all again at boot up)

SOURCE: How to install a ASUS CB-5216A 52x CD-RW Burner DVD-ROM

Here is a site that has a good manual for installing the Dvd Burner. It is very stright forward once you open up the case. Just make sure that you unplug the computers power cable, open up the case. Notice how the cables in the back of the cd rom are connected. Take the CD rom out and slide the new one in. The site listed below also has pictures to help you out.

Dell cd drive door won't open

CD/DVD Drive Tray problems
There are two ways to open the CD/DVD drive door if the button just below the drive tray does not work.
Go to My Computer and right click on the drive and click on Eject.
If this does not work then you can manually open the CD/DVD drive tray by -
Straighten a paper clip and gently insert it into a tiny hole below the drive tray next to the Eject button. Push the paper clip gently until the drive tray pops out, then pull the tray until it is fully out, then you can remove the CD/DVD disc.
If you still having problem opening with the Eject button, then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and needs replacing.

CD DOOR WON'T OPEN

Just below the CD/DVD tray there is a tiny hole. Insert a straighten paper clip in this hole and gently push the paper clip until the CD/DVD tray pops out. You can now pull the tray out until it is in the fully opened position to remove the disc.
Try pushing the eject button to see if the tray closes, then push the eject button to see if the tray opens.
If this foes not work then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and it needs to be replaced.

The CD part # that was used in the HP Pavalion a141on when it was build;

The CD/DVD drive is probably very "generic" -- salvage the face-plate from the "old" drive, and pay $35 to buy a new SATA-interface CD/DVD reader/writer, and connect the old face-plate to the new drive.

Cd stuck reject button won't work

Look at the face plate of the CD drive, if it has a small hole located under the tray straighten out a paper cilp and stick it in the hole to preform a manual eject. Remove any disc inside and close it. Now try to open it normally. If it still does not work it is time to buy a new cd drive.

CD/DVD Drive won't accept new blank CDs and they jam in the computer. I have to restart the computer (sometimes more than once) to get the machine to eject the discs.

Hi,
The problem would be the dvd rom, it won't read anymore. That's a problem with a combo DVD rom, when it being use frequently it tends to breakdown, mainly the problem is the internal parts. I have tried repairing most DVD/CD Roms, to no avail..... mostly the problem would be the parts, and it is not available in the market, and it is better to buy a new one than getting it into the manufacturer's service center, they charge excessively like your buying a new one!
If the CD is stuck inside, get a pointed metal rod, there is a small hole in the face front and push the rod into that hole untill it opens the cd tray.
Thanks for using FixYa!

My CD-ROM drive will not open. What gives?

Something is "jammed" -- take a Norwegian paper-clip, and straighten one end. Put that end into the small hole in the face-plate of the drive. Insert it until you feel resistance, and then push another 1/4 inch (0.6 cm). The tray should "unlock" and open slightly; gently pull the tray open, until you can remove any CD-disk.

Then, spend $40 to buy a brand-new CD/DVD reader/writer, and install it.
