I am cleaning an old Toshiba satellite, A25 S307 laptop, and beneath the fan on the motherboard is a switch, 2 positions, top end has other, bottom end says 3.0G printed on the mobo. Any idea what

Hi James, this is to set the processor speed, Other = speed is set in the BIOS and 3.0G forces the processor to run at 3 GHZ regardless of the BIOS setting.

I'd just like to purchase or download a system restore disc for a Toshiba Satellite laptop; model A25-S307. Thank you!

Call TOSHIBA @ 800 457-7777 the recovery CD's are hard to get because it's an older unit but you can still purchase them from TOSHIBA or ask then for a local service center provider.

How do you take a Toshiba A25-S307 apart to clean out dust?

I managed to locate a website providing some instruction on the disassembly of Toshiba laptops. While the one aimed at your laptop isn't for the purpose of cleaning out the case, I think it will get you close. I found both articles here:

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/

Article 1 (For the A25) to reach the memory area of your laptop: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaA25/Satellite-A25-memory-upgrade.htm

Article 2 (For the A20) to disassemble the laptop and replace hinges: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaA20/Satellite_A20_replace_hinges_1.htm

As mentioned, the article for the A25 isn't specific to what you're attempting to accomplish. Yet between the two articles, I think you can get the job done. Just remember, ground yourself before working on the laptop. You don't want to destroy anything because you accidentally discharged static electricity.

Let us know how things turn out, or if you require any further assistance.

It comes with 512M and is only expanable to 1 G. Theres a door on the bottom where the chip plus in. Make sure you don't touch anything in there while the computer is on. You should be able to get the chip from Crucial.com

I guess you are talking about the topcover/screen hinges, this is a very simple job to do.
Have a look here for instructions on the repair of Toshiba laptops and note books.
