Power up problems

I have a Westinghouse LTV-32w1 32 in. HDTV-Ready LCD TV purchased in December 2005. It has been great up util the last month. When I first turn it on, it come on and runs for anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes then shuts itself off. It may do this more than once. It then become very difficult to get it to power back up. When it does eventually come back on it runs great. Will this be an expensive repair? Should I start shopping for another TV as I foolishly did not purchase an extended warranty?

I have the same power up problem

I have pretty much the same problem... I was moving my television out to my living room like I have many times and when I tried to turn it on again I could get no power. When I plugged the TV in the orange light would come on and the westinghouse logo, but then would turn off and I could get nothing to work again.

This new flat screen runs from 20 minutes to 2 hours and and then the picture shuts off, but the sound keeps running. When we turn it off and then back on it runs for a shorter length of time until it won't power up.

Purchased LCD about 2 years ago. After 10 minutes or so tv shuts off. After turning off and on it may work again for about 20 minutes then turns off again. Please help.

I had the same problem I opened the back and lifet out the power supply. I noticed that when I moved it the tv came back on. Upon examining the connection of the power supply to a cable running into the set, I found it be exposed at the connection and a tad loose. I taped (electrical tape) the connection together tightly and taped over the exposed part. The tv was working fine. It was a short where the connection from the power supply joins the inter power supply. It is an easy fix as there is plenty of play in the cables to get at the bad spot.Cost: 15 minutes and 3 inches of tape.

We've had our Westinghouse LCD 32 in. for 3 years. Within the last month the tv started shutting off with just the blue light staying on. There is no sound or picture. We click the power button on the remote which turns off the blue light then click the power button again and everything comes back on. It does this within 5 minutes of turning the TV on and at least once or twice in the hour or two following. It does this every day. It is quite annoying. We house it in an armoire. Any suggestions of what we can try ourselves to solve this problem ?

I also have the same model as you and have the same problem. I called Westinghouse and talked to one of thier people and they told me that it sounds like the power supply. I took it to my local repair shop and that is what it was. It cost me $110.00 to repair it.

Jmur89: I have experienced a similar problem with my LTV-32w1. The sound and picture would turn off unexpectedly, but the blue light would stay on. Turning the power off and the on again would restore picture & sound. Frequencey of this problem varied between 1 time every 4 hours to 4 times per hour. It was getting really annoying, then suddenly nothing I did would return the sound and picture. Cycling the unit off and on only makes the blue light come on and off, but no picture or sound. I read in a post on another website that the protection circuit is coming on due to excessive power drain, and that this problem is very difficult and expensive to diagnose and repair. I also did not purchase an extended warranty and have started shopping for a new tv.

SOURCE: TV shutting off

Bought our Westinghouse LTV32 at the end of 2005, and we're having the same intermittent shut off problems. The blue power light is on, but the sound and picture are shutting off at random. We use the remote to power off and back on, but it doesn't always restore the picture and sound. If we leave the TV off for a while, it works later, but sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes for a couple of hours, then it turns off again, but the power light stays on. $200 for a new main board, that might work ...? Yeesh.

Does it look like this? http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/LTV-32W3HD/

You may have LCD controller board overheating problem (the pictures show the board with shield removed)
Try cooling it with small fan blowing at the vents.

TV just shuts off on it own... Have a westinghouse LTV-27-W2 TV purchased in 2005. It's been shutting off for no apparent reason... I wonder if it's going bad or is it the power cord.

Most likely, a number of capacitors need to be replaced in the power supply on this set, OR possibly, there is a bad connection on a connection on the snubber capacitor in the power supply, near the SMT transformer--and I have seen this MANY times on westinghouse LCD sets. .

NO SOUND, NO PICTURE WESTINGHOUSE 37 " LCD

Unfortunately, this would be the mainboard that has died. You can purchase a new one online for around $150 or maybe cheaper on E-Bay. Hope this helps.

Video problems with my westinghouse LTV 32 W 3 HD

This seems to be associated with the overheating of some component. On my set I need to check that the backlight is set to a low level. On reset it automatically adjusts to a level above maximum and the green screen will appear in a few minutes. I took the back off and that helped some.
