IMHO, it is difficult to use a binder to miter corners. When using a binder to bind your project, it is easier to round the corners on your item. If your binding is bias cut, it will go right around the curve. Otherwise, a walking foot is good for attaching binding to a quilt (and you can miter the corners), but it does take more steps.

SOURCE: stitches

Usually a walking foot is for straight forward stitching only.It keeps the many layers from shifting for you. The "hand-look" quilting takes a couple stitches forward then one back. If you look close, you will see about every other stitch is thicker and stands out more.

There are videos on the Bernina website on how to use the feet. #61 -#69 are all hemming feet. Look on this page of presser feet videos. Click the one that says #64.

SOURCE: quilting

Janome now has a darning foot ie it looks like an embroidery foot with a spring designed for the 1600 models. It is metal with a ring where the needle goes down through it. I removed the plastic lens inside the ring and this seems to have resolved the problem.

I usually pull my threads to the top so I can see where they are and not getting tangled underneath.
There are several good groups on Yahoo groups which offer support for starting out on quilting

You have to unscrew the presser foot, then attach the WF, using the same screw.

Make sure the lever on the WF rests on top of the needle bar clamp.

Some WF have a two prong lever and this fits around the needle clamp like a lobster claw.

Bernina 770 not allowing foot 20C to be used on stitch 1397 - or any of the quilt stitches I’m trying????

Ok, quilt stitches not working. On a Bernina. Most of what you said is Greek to me. Used a Bernina in 1976. It was a touchy machine then. Trying is Good. Look online? Or ask any sewing store that sells machines for help! Wish you luck! Our sewing machine stores really want to help you with machine problems.

I don't know how to use the darning on my bernina 950. Can you advise

You need to use a darning presser foot--there are several designs of darning feet made by Bernina or generic brands (be sure the generic model has the appropriate attachment for your particular Bernina). You can find metal or plastic, clear or solid foot, open or closed toe, spring-loaded hopper or not, etc. Drop the feed dogs. If it is thinner fabric (lighter weight than denim), it sometimes helps to put the fabric in an embroidery hoop (upside down with the fabric next to the needle plate). If the hole is small, you can use the little hoop that should have been included in your Bernina accessory kit. Then you manually move the fabric back & forth, up & down under the presser foot while stitching.

How can I use my Bernina 640 Artista to applique

Perhaps I'm not understanding your question. When doing applique, I use a very tight zigzag stitch with a satin stitch foot or open-toe embroidery foot (so the thickness of the stitches do not create buildup under the presser foot). Set the tension so the bobbin thread stays mostly under the fabric so the top thread is the only thread that shows on the top (sometimes threading the bobbin pigtail will help).

Fuse the cutout fabric to the backing fabric. Then zigzag so the raw edge of the fabric is covered by the zigzag (helps to use a thicker thread so the coverage is easier).

Some newer machines have the ability to miter corners. On my 930, I set the needle position to the outside of the raw edged. Then when I near the corner, I gently, but consistently, narrow the stitch width to an an outside point, since the needle on the outside edge, turn the fabric and gently, but consistently, widen the stitch to full width. This creates a nice mitered corner.

When making curves, stitch small lengths and then sink the needle on the outside of the curve, and gently turn the fabric to follow the curve and repeat while going around the curve.

How do I avoid breaking a needle on a 26 foot beginning a free motion project after programing the foot choice and lowering the foot?

#26 is an embroidery foot. Why are you using an embroidery foot for free motion quilting? A #24 free motion embroidery foot will work but not the #26. Try using a darning foot that is just a smidgen shorter so there is space between it and the needleplate for you to freely move the fabric. (Adding a Supreme Slider sheet to the work surface of your machine helps make the fabric glide much smoother.) A standard presser foot is made to press the fabric against the feed dogs so the feed dogs will move the fabric. When free motion quilting, you would drop the feed dogs and move the material with your hands.

Depends which model Bernina you have (new or old style presser feet), which will work on your machine. There are also many generic darning/FMQ feet available that will work on your machine.

Can a Bernina 801Sport be used for quilting?

Any sewing machine can be used for quilting.

For free-motion stitching, the presser foot has to be lowered or covered and you need to use a darning foot.

Refer to your manual for lowering or covering the feed dogs.

If you do not have a darning foot, you need to contact your local Bernina dealer to see if the have a foot for your model of sewing machine.

You can buy after market presser feet for Bernina, but you also need an adapter. Check sewingmachinesplus.com or Clotilde.com for these items.

I hav e Bernina 1150. When I attach the walking

Hi, when you quilt straight lines using the walking foot, you need the feed dogs up, to move the fabric in a straight direction under the needle. When you do free motion quilting, which is done with a darning foot, your hands move the fabric in many different directions. Since you want to be the one to move the fabric, you put the feed dogs down and you do the work. So when you use the walking foot, keep your feed dogs up. When you use the darning foot, feed dogs down.
