How to make your own homemade dog treats

Making your own dog treats can be a great way to save a little money and at the same time ensure that the treats you feed your dog are as nutritious as possible.

Here is my favorite recipe for homemade dog treats:

ā€¢ 2 cups of whole wheat flour

ā€¢ 4oz of pureed baby food (ensure there is no onion/onion powder in the ingredients); my dog prefers the chicken and sweet potato varieties

You will need to preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Next mix you ingredients together until you have formed a stiff dough (you may need extra flour or some water to reach the desired consistency).

On a lightly floured surface, rool out your dough to a thickness of 1/4". Use a cookie cutter (we have a bone shaped one) to cut out desired shapes from your dough.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place treats about 1/2" apart. Place in the oven for 20 minutes. Remove treats and allow time to cool.

Once you have mastered this very easy recipe, you can get more creative with the ingredients. Try adding peanut butter or blueberries to the tops.

The following link will provide you with a few more recipes for some successful homemade treats for your dog.

What are the benefits of cat treats?

Cat treats provide plenty of benefits for cats. First of all, since they are given only once in a while, they are a nice addition to the cats' diet. After eating the same food over and over, getting a treat is something cats get excited about. Second, treats are a helpful tool for training cats. When a cat does what it is asked to do, it gets a treat as a reward. Last, treats (dental) help cats clean their teeth by removing tartar and plaque.

What's the best treat for my cat?

For me the number one treat for my cat is Tuna Flakes. My cats go absolutely nuts when they see me with the treat in my hand, and I need to hide it to prevent them from eating it by themselves.
