Do you have any idea why a laptop would power up all the way to Windows and then unexpectedly shut off without powering down? It is still plugged in. The battery is fully charged.

Maybe a heat issue. I had a P4 system once that would do that exact same thing. I cleaned the cpu cooler and fans and added new heat sink paste between the heat sink and cpu. No problems after that. Let me know if this helps.

Windows keeps shutting down unexpectedly

Your computer is overheating, it is shutting itself down to prevent damage to the internal components.

Your computer should be serviced by a computer technician. He/she will clean the components and chassis of dust. This will increase airflow over the components, meaning your system will be stable and will not shut down unexpectedly.

Take care!

Compaq's are famous for over-heating, if you didn't have a cooling pad under the laptop it may have burned up some components, or it could just need time for the components to cool.

I have a Vostro 1700 laptop. Normally i would press the start button the laptop to start up the computer, but recently, when i put the power switch on on my plug socket on the wall the computer just starts...

- buttons, especially the power button could be grounded. This needs replacement and repair. You will need to contact the manufacturer for support if warranty is still active. A technician needs to be there to replace some parts

- The reason why the computer went straight to diagnostic mode is because the power button could be grounded since it's turning on automatically when plugged and when the power was disconnected the system shuts down unexpectedly. Turning on a computer that experienced unexpected power loss may result to running in diagnostic mode

- You might as well check the battery.

Blinking AC light with/without battery, computer shuts down

I want to try a very simple thing, cause it happened to me, while I am working on my computer , it shut down unexpectedly... cause the processor is working with its full performance and no enough cooling around the laptop. so while I move to other place and also I raise the laptop a little bit from the back to let the fans (bottom of the laptop) works perfectly .
try to open it again and do so.... may be it is a so simple thing that was far from your mind like I was before... good luck

Since the hardware route is expensive, have you tried to upgrade the software/drivers for the drive?

It looks like there's an incompatibility between the software, OS and hardware.

Hope this helps :) Kindly leave a rating. Thanks..
