We've got a noisy Maytag gas dryer and it has been suggested it needs brake shoes on the front and rollers on the back of the drum. Is anyone near enough to Oberon to assist us please?

To access the front you remove 2 screws at the base of the front and remove the front panel, newer models you pop the top first. Not all maytags are exactly the same. The front of the drum rides on plastic glides and the rear of the dryer rides on rollers. I made a few maytag dryer home videos HERE

SOURCE: Maytag gas Dryer is Noisy

If the noise is like a shaking of rattling , like coins being shaked , then it is an object trapped inside the drum.

If instead the noise is a loud grinding , that may get louder on high speed, then it is usually a bad drum bearing.

If dryer is not cooling, check that the noise is not coming from the ventilation fan.

Rollers and belt tensioner can also make noise.

Model 8600 , drum makes loud noise, not a squeak

HI,

If your dryer is noisy, check these:

Rollers
Idler pulley
Glides
Rear drum bearing
Blower wheel
Rollers Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

Idler pulley Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

Glides Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

Rear drum bearing Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

I have a maytag performa dryer model #pdet920ayw and when i turn it on it squeels.

Below are some links, courtesy of www.repairclinic.com, that will assist you in diagnosing/repair of your dryer. You may have to enter your model number in the search box to access some of the information.

Below is a parts breakdown/disassembly procedure for your dryer.

The most common cause of a squeal is the drum roller, of which there are 2. It is usually a good idea to replace both rollers, roller shafts and drum belt at the same time, as they have a tendency to wear at the same rate. You must also use the proper lubricant on the roller shafts, (Syl-Glide), or you will have a recurrence of the squeal.
