hi , it sounds as if your apple services driver is not starting.
Connect the device to the computer.
Quit iTunes if it opens.
Click the Start menu, right-click on Computer, and choose Properties.
In the upper-left corner, click Device Manager. The Device Manager window should open.
Click the plus (+) icon (or disclosure triangle for Windows 7) next to "Universal Serial Bus controllers" to expand this selection.
Locate the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver in this list. In some cases, you may not see this, but will find "Unknown" in its name. In other cases, Apple Mobile Device may be located in a different section of the Device Manager, such as Other Devices.
this would be alot easier on a desk top but something like this happened to me awhile ago and what i did was open the compuer and find where the cord connecting the usb port is. Your cord most likely got disconnected and you need to connect it again. That should fix it.
It sounds like your usb port is damaged. Look in the port and see if there is any visible damage. Also, check the usb cord for the iphone and see if it is damaged.
Unfortunately firmware updates and driver updates for IPhones can be fickled on Windows OS, try rollback the firmware/driver update and see if you are still getting the error. If not you may want to research if the IPhone site has a FAQ or Troubleshooting solution for this.
I had this happen to me recently - it happened when I used my old ipod USB lead rather than the USB lead that came with the iphone. I tried a lot of things to resolve it, but the only thing that fixed it was using the USB lead that came with the iphone(it should NOT have the squeeze clips on the sides of the phone plug) to plug it into my PC and let itunes perform its sync.
