Marantz CD17 pickup error

It stops playing 1-2 minutes into a music with irregular screechy sound and jumping back and forth for a few seconds, then stops with an "error" message on the display. When I open and close the tray again and replay, exactly same error happens and it never fails. Can anybody tell if there's a simple repair for it at home or it needs a replacement?

SOURCE: I recently purchased a used Marantz CDR300 CD

CDR error means the trouble is in the laser eye,maybe the eye is faulty already or dirty. If the laser eye is dirty,then you need to clean it with a cotton buds.Open the unit then wipe the laser eye tenderly with the cotton buds or buy a DVD / CD cleaner kit.Just click this link;

SOURCE: DR6000 display "open"

you may need to replace the whole mechanism as i've had quite a few philips and marantz cd recorders with the same mechanism with exactly the same problem. when you press open/close it will display open or close with no sign of life from the player. this turned out to be a faulty laser unit and the PCB which is underneath the mechanism seems to go the same way which i found out later when i replaced the laser unit. the recorder worked for around 5 minutes then the laser started moving erratically but then would work again for 5 minutes after switching it off & on again. i cured the fault by replacing the PCB aswell. hope this helps?

SOURCE: CAN,T DETECT CD IN BURNER TRAY

laser failure on the recording side is very common on marantz and philips cd recorders.
they're well known for it.
so it's most definately the laser in your case.

hope this helps.

SOURCE: Marantz CDR631 is dead

open it up and take the mechanism out, then you should see a servo PCB screwed to the underside of the mechanism.
unscrew this and where the connecting wires plug in from the main PCB, you should see 2 or 3 fuses which look a bit like capacitors and should be red in colour marked MPXXX eg. MP100?
replace these if you can find spares, if not bridge them with a bit of thin wire soldered in place and then it should switch on once reassembled.
the clicking sound you mention will be the main power supply capacitors running and this is normal.

Marantz cd17 ki -5volt dc on lh audio out causing speaker cone to move significantly

Hello John, yes, having 5 volts DC in the output of your Marantz, will make the speakers move a lot
The weird thing is that you have that tension in the audio output of the CD17
If you have technical knowledge, you should check the audio output, mainly Mute transistors or DC decoupling capacitors
I am sending you the link so you can download the service manual
I hope you can solve the problem
Greetings Franco Dosil

Lo raro es que tengas esa tensi?n en la salida de audio del CD17
Si tienes conocimientos t?cnicos, tendr?as que revisar la salida de audio, principalmente los transistores de Mute o los capacitores de desacople de DC

laser cleaning cd's very rarely work. the only thing they are good for is if there is a build-up of dust on the lens. Sounds like you most likely need to have the laser replaced.

My marantz is recording 5 minute tracks and then opening up a new track ... I want it to record onto one track until I have completed

There are two settings that are important to solve what might be perceived as "irregular" recording processes. The first is to reset "Auto Track" to OFF and the second is to set manual Track to Off. This will result in a more normal recording experience.
