20 Most Recent Marantz SR-92 Mark II Receiver Questions & Answers

Is it on all audio sources or only certain ones? Have you swapped the speakers Left-to-Right to isolate the speaker from the signal chain as a cause?

If it's only an analog source doing it I would suspect a bad audio cable or a switch contact somewhere in the signal path. Typically, it might be a switch you rarely use, like a Tape Monitor or Mute. It's wise to occasionally (with power OFF) manipulate all manual controls throughput their ranges a number of times to wipe oxides from their contacts.

Is it new to you?

Make sure there are jumpers connecting the rear like in the picture.

UN-select anything to do with Tape or Muting.

Hello Meredith, for what you are saying, you could have a problem in the cable that you use to send the signal you want to record, or the microphone cable or the line cable
put to record the Marantz, without any cable connected to the inputs and listen with the headphones, if the hum is, if not, try to change the cables for others of the same type, if you use microphone, controls the connectors, which do not have humidity or rust in the contacts
I hope you can solve the problem
Greetings Franco Dosil

Hello Alessandro, if you have changed the three belts, it is very possible that the belt of the capstan, has been mounted on the edge of the motor pulley, which has a diameter may, therefore it will be faster the speed of the tape
Re-disassemble and observe the location of this belt, verify that it has the same thickness as the original, also observe that the capstan are with their bushings well, clean well the surfaces where the belts work with Isopropyl alcohol
If you have checked everything and do not find problems, you should adjust the speed of the motor, preferably with a 3 kHz cassette and a frequency meter or with an original, that you know the content
I sent you the link to download the service manual
I hope you can solve the problem
Greetings Franco Dosil

Hello John, yes, having 5 volts DC in the output of your Marantz, will make the speakers move a lot
The weird thing is that you have that tension in the audio output of the CD17
If you have technical knowledge, you should check the audio output, mainly Mute transistors or DC decoupling capacitors
I am sending you the link so you can download the service manual
I hope you can solve the problem
Greetings Franco Dosil

Hello Nate, if you can connect an amplifier to the front channels of your Marantz, to reinforce the sound
For that you have to take the audio signal from the PreOut RCA connections on the back of the SR8002, L output and R output and these 2 signals are sent to the input of your booster amplifier
I send you the link of the user manual and on page 10 you can see the back panel of your Marantz and identified with the number 12, the "PreOut" exits area, there are located the exits that I mentioned
I hope you can listen with more presence to the front channels of your audio system
Greetings Franco Dosil

Hello Tvin, I have read what you have put, depending on that look for the service manual and I told you that it is very possible that the amplifier stage works well, you can check it, if you have a CD player or another sound source, if you listen, definitely the amplifier stage, it works
Regarding what you observe that when you look for the stations, your Marantz tunes them, which does not indicate that the sound comes out, I tell you why, there are several stages within the radio,
The stage of tuning and location of the stations, is the one that indicates that it found the station and it indicates it in the display, next there is the stage decoder stereo and audio output, this stage is the one that is in conflict
If you have technical knowledge, I will send you the link of the service manual, but look for a specialized technical service
I hope you can listen soon, the radio stations in your Marantz
Greetings Franco Dosil

Saludos Franco Dosil
