My jvc mx-gb5 just stopped working all of a sudden. it had problems sometimes when the bass would be bumping too hard, it would just lose power. is there any way to figure out what the problem is without having to take it in to get repaired?

try cleaning the lazer lens, also remember it is old and is most likly toast., the longest I ever owned a deck that didnt go out was 4 years.

When you get time, I'd still check some of the preamp connections. But I'm glad to hear you're back in business!

Its actually a easy repair but its recommended that the convergence resistors need replacement as well. You can get the parts at the following link and they provide free detailed instructions with pictures. You need two STK392-110 Convergence ICs and you would need the JVC convergence Resistor kit #1 also. Heres the link.
