I have a problem with my DC, sometimes when i play Shenmue or something when i for example leave the house, sometimes it freezes when it says "Now loading", or else it will just get black screen and nothing happens.
This also happens with other games like Sonic Adventure and Quake III.
The Dreamcast is no longer supported because it was to easy to copy the games, but there are still a loyal few who keep the scene alive. I have no idea how much you want to put into fixing the problem, but the only way to fix your problem is flashing the Dreamcast BIOS.

This issue is linked with demaanded memory by the games and the graphics memory.
Recommendation will be to add a 512 display card then only you will be able to play these games.
ya i happens to me also..i figured that It seems like something with EA sports games make them highly
vulnerable to freezing. It does that with FIFA, NHL, and Madden as well
from what I hear (already froze on me once on FIFA). It could be that
these games are too demanding in information processing and too graphic
intensive, or whatever, but it's probably not the system. For example,
I've played many games for over 40 hours now, sometimes playing
hours on at a time, and it hasn't froze or glitched on me even once...
Try using a can of air to blow out the fan area. Even though its well ventilated it may be full of dust. It sounds like an overheating issue. Also look into aftermarket fan/cooling solutions, that dont plug directly into the PS3 and have there own outlet power plug.
if its at the same spot all the time then u av a corrupt disc. the only choice you have is to take it back to the shop and exchange for another one. you could also contact the developers and they will sometimes send another disc to you but you have to send the old one back. check on the back of the box for details. if its in a cut scene you can sometimes cancel cut scene and it will be fine.
~Open up the dreamcast ~remove the Powerboard (located to the left houses power supply) ~get baby wipes or facial wipes and clean the pins ~dry with toilet paper ~put it all back together
That will fix it ^_^. i had this problem as well and didn't play my DC for years then i stumbled on a youtube video and now it works great never restarts. have fun playing old games again.
you can get disks relayered at game stores.
there was a long period where this happened to me.
some games worked for a while, some didnt.
its the dreamcast.
you might wanna get anew power cable or just clear out the dust because that is the main problem with the dreamcast.
try playing with the console upside down
it sounds crazy but it worked for me.
Try lubricating the drive and clean the lens with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. Then use a dry q-tip to dry up any of the remains of the rubbing alcohol. You'll also need to open up the drive to lubricate it.
