No picture for Genesis - RF or console?

I recently bought a Sega Genesis console. Power light goes on but no picture appears on tv. I have Comcast digital cable and have tried hooking up the console with the RF adapter using the cable antenna through the digital box and bypassing it. I have tried every possibility of configurations....all of them! Is it the console that is broken or the original video cable of the genesis (that goes into the RF adapter). I assume its the console and if that is the problem...where can I get it fixed? I live in NJ and I would've thought there would be experienced repair places but for now I've had no luck.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have an LCD tv and am wondering how to get a signal from the genesis given that I am running my cable via a HD box.

I can't get it to work either. Same setup. Comcast digital HD DVR box used with the RF converter. At one point I got audio, but I can't get any image on the screen. I bought a new RF converter cord today and it still didn't fix the problem. I'm beginning to think there's some sort of problem with the conversion through the Comcast box.

The problem is most likely not the console. The first thing you should try is cleaning the contacts on your games. Most of the games have tamper proof fasteners so unless you have the right tools you won't be able to open them. You can take a q-tip with a little alcohol (damp not wet) and clean both sides of the circuit board on the cartridge until the q-tip comes out clean. Let it dry before sticking it into the console. If you do this to a couple of games with no luck try taking an emery board (for fingernails) and gently inserting it into the connector in the console a few times all along the length of it. Make sure to only push it straight in and pull it straight out. If you try pushing it side to side while it is in there you could damage the connector.

My sega genesis has a clear picture but static sound can someone help?

Try an older TV set. I am not joking. It might very well be the case that newer TV sets/high-end TV systems can't handle the signals of the older video game consoles. Because the newr tv;s don't have the signal transfer inside of them to make the old consoles work so you could use the genesis av cables to hook up to a digital tv instead of the rf switch.

Are you sure it should be on channel 3? Not a TV input mode? Also it could be that the console is shot. Or the cables don't work with the console itself.

Hi, get your hands on a new AV cable you will notice a great difference in picture quality compared to the RF switch. see www.gameoz.com.au as they stock the cable you require. They also can modify the console with a s-video out put which would be one of the best picture quality possable available from one of these retro consoles

Sega Genesis Video Problem

Maybe you are supposed to be on Channel 4. There should be a 3-4 switch on your RF adapter. Try wiggling the video connection in the back of your genesis and see if that fixes anything, it might be a lose port, in which case you have to wrap the cable underneath the genesis or something heavy to keep it at a working angle (if you find a working angle).

It is also possible your RF cable is bad. They aren't that much on ebay, but make sure you buy one for your model (there are 2 models of genesis and they use different RF cables)

I hope this helps somewhat.

Help connecting a Sega Genesis 16bit system!

What you will need to do with the RF cable is to take your incoming cable thast goes to your TV and screw it into one side of the RF box. Then the adjacent short cable wire that is on the other side needs to be screwed into your TV. The long end of the cord plugs into the back of the sgea unit. Good luck! Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Bad picture with Sega Genesis model 1

Taking your problem in a whole new direction, why don't you try purchasing an 8 or 9-pin (depending on the type of Genesis you have) DIN RCA cable. This will improve picture and sound, and you won't have to worry about malfunctioning RF converters. Your problem sounds like the RF adapters are inadequate.
