My 7 1/2 year old Thermador CVS36RB Cook 'n' Vent won't retract

I caused the problem, and since we are retired with our income shrinking daily, I am concerned that "the fix" will be way too expensive. While cooking, I bumped my cooling skillet too close to the Cook 'n' Vent. While placing hot food in the fridge, I pushed the button...the vent started down...and caught on the skillet. Soon as I could put the hot food down, I yanked the skillet out from under the vent...it continued down. When I put it up the next time I cooked, it worked fine...but will no longer retract. What am I probably looking at? Is this something my very handy husband can fix? If not, how costly is the fix likely to be. He thinks something is bent inside...please help. Loads of Thanksgiving family coming next week.

The exact thing happened to my wife during cooking for Christmas! Now we can't get it down...Did you ever get it fixed and if so, how?

I too have a Thermador Cook-N-Vent stuck in the up position. When I push the button for it to retract [do down], the motor comes on, but nothing happens. I push the button again and the motor shuts off. The venting fan still works fine. I am pretty sure I had a pot handle positioned so that the vent hit the handle and jammed on it when trying to go down.

Sears labor is 137 plus parts. that is something that would need to be looked at. it could be a few different things. if he is handy he can open it up to see if anything is misaligned or broken. the vent may even just be a little crooked and once straight may go up and down like normal

Cook 'n Vent Downdraft Up/Down Mechanism Replacing

just the switch should be replacable. My vent has a screw at each end (philips flatheads - accessible only when vent is up) just under the top cap. Removing the screws and cap should give you access to the switch. Just make sure you cut your breaker off first.

Thermador cook top with down draft ventalation

I would think you can. Most of the cooktops are 240v and the vents are 120v, so the vent may be feeding off of one of the cooktop's hot wires. My vent is fed from it's own receptacle but is harnessed along with the cooktop's 240v.

Thermador Cook 'n' Vent Stove with stuck vent (model # SGCS304RS)

I just had a similar problem. The switch knob, and backer for the blower got jambed in the housing. After pulling it all apart I called the parts center at Thermador and ordered a new switch. If you can hear the motor the raises the unit run, then that could be your problem.
