Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens Logo

Had problems loading the card into my Canon SLR EOS 400D. Must have put too much pressure on it as, once loaded, now gives error message

Is this something that is cost effective to get repaired?

  • Anonymous May 06, 2012

Have tried this and also tried other cards in the camera. Suspect one of the tiny metal prongs that the card fits over when loading it is out of line so the connection is incomplete. Has anyone else had problems in this respect and is it an expensive repair?

Usually this is caused by putting the card in sideways. you can usually see if pins are bent or pushed through (loose floating around inside) and you see an empty black rectangle where the pin should be.

pins are soldered to main circuit, and the XTi uses lead free solder which requires skill to repair. this is repairable but would run you somewhere in the $150-190 range

SOURCE: Canon EOS 400D LCD screen problem

There is no live preview mode on this camera. I am not sure if that is what you are referring to, but you can only use LCD for review and menu, not as a viewfinder.

The new Rebel XSi is the only one in the rebel series with this new feature.

Hope this helps!

Canon eos 400d error 99, shooting not possible. turn the power swithch on off again or re-instal the battery. It has been doing this for a long time and nothing is working to fix it! Thank you,

1.Remove the battery, lens and CF card. Allow the camera to sit without power for 20 minutes and then reinsert a fully charged battery.
2.Turn the camera on and push the shutter button as if you were taking a picture.
3. If you don't get the error message reattach the lens and insert the CF card.
4. Check the below canon eos 400d service manual link:

If your cards work properly in another camera, the problem is most likely caused by one or more of the CF Card pins being bent inside your camera. Sometimes, if a card gets a small piece of sand or debris in one of the holes, it can cause it to push one of the pins in the camera straight back out of its hole.

LCD monitor works to display picture already taken and the menu display, but with not display live images. Must use the view finder. Menu does not have a "live view"

There is no function to do this on the EOS 400D. Don't forget the camera is an SLR and still has to open and close a shutter to take a picture. The image is then converted using a CCD instead of exposed on film. I find with my 20D I just take loads of pictures and review them and then delete the ones that I don't want. This is the beauty of the digital age.

Canon 400d err99 message when trying to take a picture. how do I resolve problem?

Error 99 also refers to communication problems between lens and camera, so worth cleaning the contacts...you can't lose anything in doing so.
1. Take your battery out and reinsert it - this will clear it.
2. Clean your lens contacts carefully with a plastic pencil eraser. Sometimes corroded contacts can cause errors like this.
3. Try the camera with different lenses - if it is occuring with several lenses, it may point more strongly to a camera fault.
4. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed.

I have an EOS Canon 400D digital SLR and my husband has bought me a Sony photo printer DDP-FP75 . I had wanted to be able to insert the memory card but it doesn't seem compatible. Can I print using the...

The two are not immediately compatible. The Canon EOS 400D uses a Compact Flash card. The Sony Photo Printer you have accepts SD and Memory Stick cards. Unfortunately, the CF card and SD card are very different.

The easiest solution I can think of would be for you to get an inexpensive card reader (make sure it accepts Compact Flash cards), attach it to your PC and then use it to read the CF card from your Canon EOS -- and print to your Sony printer.

I hope this helps. If it does, please rate the solution offered. My goal is always FixYa or Helpful, never TFT or IA. Regards,

Canon EOS 400D SLR - Err 99

Try going into the menu and turning off the lock for shooting without a lens. Then try firing it without a lens to see if it works. Very often a lens problem can cause the Err 99 message.

Also, check to make sure the pop-up flash is not stuck down. That could also cause it.

Unless you have used your camera a LOT, it shouldn't be a bad shutter. They usually only quit after many years of use. I think Canon quotes 125,000 shots as the normal life of a shutter in a digital SLR.

Is my canon eos 400d broken?

This is a Digital SLR With SLR cameras you can only use the viewfinder because the image comesi nto the lens and up to the viewfinder via a mirror. When to take a pic the mirror flips up[usually with a crash] and the image goes to the CCD- afterwards you will get an image briefly in the LCD.
