WHenever I'm gaming, currently WoW, if I go ino a dark area my monitor dims down. I'm guessing this is some built in matching thing... but it's noticable, it does it over two to three seconds. It's really... irritating and non-engrossing. How do I turn this awful feature off?

could be an issue of his resolution and refresh rate settings are close to being out of range for the monitor. Try lowering these settings to get better performance.

I have the same monitor, its a power supply problem from the computer most likely. check the cable connections etc... I would get a service call from an authorized dealer near you ... about $120.00. Hope this helps:)
SOURCE: I have a HP w2338h monitor that goes blank
It is most likely a bad power supply... I have had aboit 4 diff monitors do this to me... most common is under rated capacitors in the internal power supply... some times there could be a black light going out witch causes higher current draw on the power supply ( witch can take out the caps, fusses, transformers ( caps and transformers when they get week and bad can cause the buzzing sound ( on some times with a radio near buy then the monitor is acting up with blanking out and buzzine the radio will pop and buzz as well witch is a sign that there is arching going on IE. caps and transformer are most common for that )))
hope this info helps

as you have stated that it's new monitor so it cant be problem with the monitor. To check if the issue is with the monitor or is with the CPU .. you need to unplug the VGA cable from the Cpu..then your monitor will show message that there is no signal cable or something like that. If monitor show's such message then there is a problem with you CPU. Or you can check by switching on the CPU and press the NUM lock at the keyboard if the num lock is blinking by pressing then in that case your CPU is fine. And you need to get checked your monitor by some technician coz it can be then need to fixed by a technician ...
