I have had my Marantz CDR631 for three years, seldom using it. Lately, There are popping sounds, like a dusty LP, recorded randomly onto material that I burn with my unit. I have removed yhe TV monitor to a distance of 4 feet away. Playback of material recorded elsewhere is perfect.
The cdr631 is a pro unit, should record on any decent quality cdr. If a unit really does need 'consumer audio' only discs it would just spit the wrong discs out like their consumer ones do, not just start adding pops etc. Try a computer grade disc from the same brand as your audio only ones?
Shortly after posting my issue about random "popping" noises in playback of discs recorded on my Marantz CDR361, I found that the problem was that the unit required "music" cd's. I mostly use Maxell CD-R Music cd's with perfect results.

Is it just the analogue inputsthat do this? Soulnds like a faulty input board.
re:80sguy's comment - it isn't normal on MY cdr631 and sounds like a failed capacitor on the input board is charging / discharging causing the 'pop' - I've had it on an older cdr630 ( the one based on the philips cdd3610 mech)and it was a popped cap.
o.p says the 631 'plays back material recorded elsewhere ok',so it isn't the output of the 631 as a player that's the issue it's the sound recorded on the disc hence it being an input problem. So playing the discs on another unit will still sound 'dusty' as they've been recorded to the disc. I have the CDL4009 loader in the 631's service manual if anyone needs it.
