AGFA-Avantra 44SF v2013.108 problem in win7

Although Agfa no longer supports their scanners with drivers and software updates, some Vista and Windows 7 users say they are still able to install the XP software and get it to run. In another thread, broccauley said: 'I got my Agfa Snapscan 1212U scanner to work fine with Windows 7. All I did was to install the XP Agfa Scanwise 2.0.0.9 software FIRST (available from Agfa website). Then I went to Devices and Printers, right-clicked on the 1212U and chose "Troubleshoot" - Windows then found and installed the driver automatically.'

HERE is the official download link for the Agfa Photo Printer AP 2300. Look towards the bottom of the page under the "printers" section. It's a .zip file so I'm not sure if it's supported in windows 7 yet or not but it's the only driver for that printer.

Have you had your printer for awhile and recently upgraded your operating system to Windows 7? If so, you need to download a new printer driver (and software) from the Canon website for Win7.

I recommend that you uninstall your printer and software before re-installing the software from the following link at Canon support:

Choose your operating system (Windows 7 or Windows 7 x64) from the drop-down box.

Download the driver file and any additional software as needed.

Run the driver installation routine and follow the prompts to re-install your Canon MP730 on your computer.

Run the install routine on any additional software.

I have found out the hard way that Windows 7 is exactly like Vista - i.e. incompatible with perfectly working equipment - for several PCI add-on cards and my trusted 1212u scanner. My solution: I'm ditching Windows 7 and going for Ubuntu. It supports the 1212u fine with the SANE package. It's ridiculously wasteful to toss working peripherals just because Microsoft can't be bothered to offer decent support for its paid software.

About Agfa Snapscan E25:
Agfa discontinued its DTP scanner product line (SnapScan, DuoScan, Horizon and Arcus range) and digital cameras (ePhoto, ActionCam, StudioCam) at the end of 2001. At this page is the link for downloading the last valid drivers for your scanner, supporting up to winXP. Try, if you are lucky it may work with Win7
About Acer Aspire 3050:
This laptop has no drivers for Win7 (that's what acer says, not me). Here is the last driver for your camera supporting up to Vista.
In my opinion try the latest drivers that I send you, since there is nothing to loose.

It's not proven compatible with Win7. However, there is a Vista driver. Try installing this (possibly with the Compatibility Mode - right click on the install file and select properties and the Compatibility tab).

This driver is dated 2008 and thus well before Win7. If you have Win7 Pro or Ultimate, the XP mode might work. This involves downloading and installing 2 programs to create a virtual computer. Then install the printer on the XP "machine" as if that is the only computer. To transfer files from one computer to other, you may need to save files to external media.

Vuescan installs it's own generic driver that WILL work with Win7.You Agfa won't.

Every time you install a new operating system, or reinstall one, you have to install the printer drivers. Printer drivers never come with the operating system files like hard drive drivers, video drivers, audio drivers, network drivers and stuff like that. OS manufacturers know that you are going to need that stuff no matter what, and for the most part, there are not that many manufacturers. But printers are different, you always have to install them. Please note: This is a 32 bit driver (the link on the page) and Canon does not have a windows 7 - 64 bit driver yet. If you need a 64 bit driver, use the Vista 64 bit driver and install it in compatibility mode. Windows 7 compatibility mode is excellent...HP still does not have a Windows 7 driver for my printer, and I run mine off of a Vista driver and it works great. If you try to install it straight, it won't install, because most vista software is stricly Vista compatible. You have to open the folder, find the setup file that begins the install, and right click, and check compatibility options. You get a box that opens and you can check exactly what version of Vista with exactly what service pack...and be sure to check the little box that says install as administrator. If the install fails, and you can't find how to do this, do the install again...if the install fails I think it is 2 or 3 times...Windows will automatically pop up the box for you. Windows 7 is very intuitive....I LOVE IT!

As far as I can tell, the driver has not been updated for either VIsta or Windows 7. If you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, you have a workaround option. Install the XP mode and then install the scanner to that virtual PC.
