Screen Problems we got a new HDTV 1080p LE37 A557 I connected the Sky plus box to it and a DVD player, everything was fine. soon after I connected a Xbox 360 to it and about two hours of playing later the screen went wierd, lines started to go downwards on the screen the sound was still working and the Xbox was working fine. I then turned everything off and disconnected everything, then turned only the TV on, it went back to normal I then reconnected the Sky Box and DVD player. And then about two hours later the same thing happens Does anyone know the problem?

SOURCE: TV does not always recognize the DVD player

that's a firmware problem where your tv's firmware does not handshake with your dvd's firmware. This could be from your dvd's software being to old for your tv to understand it. HDMI (TDMS Technology) still has Alot of catching up too do with 3rd generation tv's. Alot of HDMI devices still have the first gen software loaded into them. So a tv after 2005 won't work with HDMI from 2003 (1st gen). Most tv's made after 2007 have software that's "backward compatible" so they will work with first gen HDMI.

How does your tv perform outside this problem???

I have a samsung42 inch flat screen and a dvd and a sky plus box and avhs recorder could show me how to do the set up connections please

If you have a blueray or HD DVD player I would connect using a gold plated HDMI cable from the TV to the DVD, make sure that you buy the correct HDMI version for your TV. If you don't have a HS DVD player recorder then use a HQ SCART as below.

Most SKY+ boxes still have a SCART connection I suggest that you buy a HQ gold plated ribbon connector to connect the SKY to one of your AV (audio visual) channels. The benefit of using SCART is that it will autoselect the AV channel when SKY is taken out of standby.

You will not need to connect using co-axial cables these are pretty much redundant now as you can get all your channels through your SKY dish.

Also if you live in a poor reception area and your TV has freeview built in SKY is your better option.

A/V Signal Outout through Onkyo TX-SR705

Are you trying to record cable programming with your DVD recorder? If so, you might want to try using component cable as HDMI does have a copy protection circuit that might be preventing your recorder from receiving the image. Just try to connect the cable box component (RED/GREEN/BLUE) cable to your DVD recorder. If that doesn't work, then try to change everything over to component cables. HDMI is a great cable to use but it the only required to display 1080p images and the only current source that uses 1080p is a bluray player. Everything else, such as your cable box and DVD recorder is 1080i and component cables are perfect for it.
