Not familiar with the Ninento DS, but if it has wifi capability then yes you will need a wireless router in the mix for it to connect to the internet at your home. I would recommend enabling security and changing the default password as a minimum if you get a wireless router. However it isn't a requirement to get it to work. Simply buy the wireless router, connect an ethernet cable from the wan/uplink/internet port on the router to the ethernet port on the cable/dsl modem and connect the power. That is the minimum required steps to setup wireless.

Netgear wnd3700v3 has two yellow linght on and no internet

The internet port of the router needs to connect to the modem from your ISP. The two yellow lights are normal but if the internet light is off check the cable from the router's internet port to your modem.

Sometimes the modem needs to be turned off then back on again for the router to get an internet connection (IP address).

How do i set up model number f507632-4

  1. Choose a convenient location to begin installing your router, such as an open floor space or table. This does not need to be the permanent location of the router. For wireless routers, it may be necessary to re-position the unit after installing it as the signals may not reach all areas needed.
  2. Unplug the power to your Internet modem.
  3. Power down your computer(s).
  4. Plug the power in to your router.
  5. Connect your Internet modem to the router. The cable plugs into the router jack named "WAN" or "Internet". Turn on your Modem.
  6. Connect one computer to the router. Even if the router is a wireless model, connect this first computer to the router via a network cable.

  7. Turn on the computer.
  8. From the computer connected to the router, open your web browser. Enter the router's address, http://192.168.2.1, and press Enter on your keyboard.
  9. Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.

  10. To configure the router to connect to the Internet, you must enter information provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) into the "Connection Type" section in the left-hand column under the "Internet WAN" heading of the router's configuration page. If using DSL Internet, you may need to enter the PPPoE username and password. Likewise, if you have been issued a static IP address by your provider, the static IP fields (including network mask and gateway) must also must be set in the router.

  11. If this is a wireless router, change the network name (referred to as SSID). While the router comes to you with a network name set at the factory, you may want to use something more familiar for your network. Read Changing the router's wireless channel and SSID for a description of this process.
  12. Plug the power back into your Internet modem.
  13. Verify that this computer can connect to the Internet properly. Open a new web browser and visit a few Internet sites such as Google.com or Yahoo.com.
  14. Finally, configure additional network security features as desired to guard your systems against Internet attackers.

Cable modem is connected to the router but the router is not working wireless or when connected via Ethernet cable

You need to check first if the internet is working if you connect your computer directly to the modem. If there is internet on your modem, you need to reset and reconfigure the router. If there is no internet on the modem, you need to contact your internet provider.

With a Linksys Router is a 2wire modem needed?

Do you have internet service (Cable, DSL, etc.)? If so, a router is a great tool for keeping the bad guys out of your home network. If you don't have an internet connection, a router is very useful for connecting multiple computers together. In some cases, you may want to share resources with a neighbor (unlikely, but possible). A wireless router would be extremely useful in this scenario.

So in answer to your question, a router doesn't need a modem to operate but it does need an internet connection to get you on the internet. A router by itself does not provide internet connectivity.

The network is working but I can't get the internet

If the internet is not working first thing to check here is the internet connection from your modem without the router, make sure that your computer can access the internet when computer is connected directly to modem, if no internet without the router you need to contact your ISP for that, but if there's internet without the router you need to reset and reconfigure the router.....if you have the setup CD of the router just run that to reconfigure it back.........
