The network is working but I can't get the internet

  • Scott Griswold May 11, 2010

Can you elaborate on your setup?

        Service type/company?

        Modem brand?

Operating system and number of machines?
When you say the network is working, do you mean you can communicate with other machines on your network or you are just able to verify that you are connected to the router? I can give you some things to check, but I will need to know the answers to the above questions.

I checked my internet connection from the modem without the router, make sure that my computer can access the internet when computer is connected directly to modem. But when I use router, the light arte on and I can ping out ( like www.yahoo.com ), but cannot access internet, the screen shows that the connection between modem and router has problem ( X ). very weird? I tried to reconfig three times and no fix this issue.
Please help , or I doubt the D_link router hardware has problem.

Thanks

If the internet is not working first thing to check here is the internet connection from your modem without the router, make sure that your computer can access the internet when computer is connected directly to modem, if no internet without the router you need to contact your ISP for that, but if there's internet without the router you need to reset and reconfigure the router.....if you have the setup CD of the router just run that to reconfigure it back.........

Magic Jack Plus worked in USB and then Internet on computer stopped working

It's got the wrong gateway setting. Without a gateway (router) to the Internet it can only see local network stuff. I suspect the Magic Jack is still trying to be the gateway but it has no Internet. Stop Magic Jack doing this and it should work.

Hi,
you can do a quick troubleshooting on the laptop.
1. used another network cable and check that no pins are broken on the laptop.
2. go to device manager and remove the network adapter and reinstall it.

if this don't work. if you have a wireless router, you can connect to the internet over the wireless network adapter on the laptop.

good luck!!

Internet/network problems

Connecting the laptop to your network using a network cable, does this solve your Internet problems?
Does this works without the Internet connection dropping out?
If the wireless connection has a low signal, try positioning the wireless router or the laptop to get a better signal strength.
Also try reinstalling your wireless driver.

Internet Applications wont connect - Vista

I am running Windows 7 (the new vista) so I hope I can help. Go to the "Start" button and select "Control Panel". Click on "Network and Internet" and then "Network and Sharing Center". You shouls see something like: Computer =====Network ====== Internet. If there is an "X" on one of the connections, that may help you decide which option further down to try. You can keep me posted if this helps to this point.

Wont sign on to internet

Is the computer recognizing the connection to the network?  Does the home network use DHCP?  How do you have the network setup?  Does this connection work with a different computer?  Try pinging any other computer on the network, and try pinging a website.
