Viking oven I'm having a problem with my oven,...the top burners work fine,...but the oven won't get hot. My wife was cooking with it and the power went out and now it will not heat up. I looked on line and found some info indicating if the elctric ignitor is not pulling enough amperage,...then it will not release the vlave to let the gas flow. This makes sense because it does not smell like gas in my oven. My question is,...viking sells the part for 158.00,...ebay sells a universal gas stove ignotor for 15.00. how can I tell if the universal ignotor will work for my stove,...should I even try it...??

The bi metal in the gas valve requires 3.2 amps in order to work. i would advise only to use original factory parts . those ignitors cost less from other sites that sell factory authentic parts.

We had a hurricane come through and power was out at our house for 2 weeks. The top burners worked but the oven would not. Our outside gas grill worked perfectly also using the utility provided natural gas. We were told by Viking that the oven is designed to work only when there is electric power. This is a safety feature, according to Viking.

I have a Viking pro model oven VGIC3064BSS that doesn't light fully

Viking Gas Range Burners Won't Light? Here's What To Do... We'll discuss how to properly check the power sources and igniter when your Viking gas range burners won't light. We'll also provide a step-by-step guide illustrating how to clean Viking range burners with the right methods and materials.

Check For Power And Loose Connections

Are your Viking stove burners not igniting on demand? This may be more of a power issue and not a range malfunction. Even though you have a gas range, electricity is still required to ignite the burner. Here's how to check your stove's electrical sources to make sure they're functioning properly:
  • Make sure the stove is correctly plugged into a functioning outlet.
  • Check the stove's circuit breaker or fuse in your home's circuit breaker or fuse box. Reposition a tripped breaker or replace a blown fuse.
  • Refrain from using an extension cord to power your range. Most cords can't safely transmit the electricity required to power the stove.

How To Clean Viking Range Burners

Despite our best efforts, cooking spills and accidents can leave range burners compromised. Liquids, grease, and grime that go unnoticed during a hasty post-dinner cleaning can impair range components, resulting in burners that won't light.
This step-by-step guide provides Viking range cleaning tips that clean your burners and other stove components safely and effectively:

Grates:

Remove the grates and soak them in a sink of hot, soapy water for 15-20 minutes. For stubborn stains, add ammonia to the soaking liquid or scrub with Soft Scrub cleanser. Rinse with hot, soapy water and dry completely before replacing.

Burner Caps:

  1. Remove the caps by lifting straight upward.
  2. Scrub with hot, soapy water and a non-abrasive pad, using Soft Scrub cleanser for tougher stains.
  3. For persistent staining, place burner caps outside on a sheet of newspaper. Spray with Easy-Off Fume Free Max oven cleaner and allow to sit for 1-2 hours.
  4. Rinse with hot, soapy water.
  5. Allow caps to dry completely before replacing.

Burner Heads:

  1. Remove burner heads by lifting gently upward.
  2. Combine Bar Keeper's Friend and water to make a paste.
  3. Apply the paste to the burner head and leave for 30 minutes, resting on a clean towel.
  4. Scrub the paste into the burner head with a non-abrasive pad to remove stains.
  5. Rinse with hot, soapy water.
  6. Allow to dry completely.

Viking model vdsc4874gss small oven works fine large oven element on bottom only gets hot in cleaniong mode, fan comes on when dial is turned to convection but no heat power is on light works

One thing that you can check is make sure that you have 220 volts at the plug. Leave the unit unplugged and check continuity on the burners. You should have continuity on the burners.

Stove burner gets red hot

Since you do not have a thermostat control on your burners, I would suspect you may have an infinite switch (burner control), that controls that particular burner, possibly starting to go bad. The thermostat control is located on the infinite switch itself and may be cycling on and off improperly. Its hard to tell with intermittent problems, however. If in doubt, you can do a comparison between a working 8" inch burner and the one you are having problems with.

Another thing to consider with these coil type plug in burners, the receptacles under the cook top that they plug into can gradually become loose over time and cause the burners to arc. This may also cause excess current flow through the burner and will eventually cause burner coil damage and/or receptacle failure. I would troubleshoot this by, first, by unplugging the appliance and inspecting all the burner receptacles. If any show signs of burning or melting, replace them. You will need to lift the cook top to access them. Locate the screws under the bottom front edge of the cook top (open the oven door to see them) and remove them. With the screws removed, the cook top will lift up. Prop in place using the hinge supports.

NOTE: Remove the burner coils and bowls before lifting the cook top.

Replacements parts (including burner receptacles) can be purchased at pcappliancerepair.com, appliancepartspro.com, searspartsdirect.com, or repairclinic.com.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Top burners on our Viking work fine, however the

Hi, There is a good chance the ignitor is bad. Even if it glows, it could be weak enough that it will not open the gas valve. It is very a common problem with the gas stoves.
I would change the ignitor.

Maytag cook top too hot!

Remove cooktop and check to see how much insulation is below the top, on top of the oven cavity, You may want to install some more insulation. The specs for this range probably allows this to happen. you should not put anything on the top after cooking in the oven, as glass breakage may occur.
