Is there any signs of life with your computer? if it looks as if it is going through the motions etc get yourself a torch and shine it on the screen, If you can see anything on the screen...the windows logos etc your back lighting is gone! A new screen is needed, or it could be the screens cable has become detached from the mother board? Highly unlikely! Try an external monitor and if it comes on on the external monitor the screen is definitely gone! you haven't switched the screen off using the usually blue function button and one of the function buttons?
