My Transcend external harddsik when plugged show as loacal disk(H) but when I double click on it it gives msg"Disk not formatted do you want to format"Also it shows used space 0 & free space 0. I have very importanat data on it.

Trouble with Transcend 640Gb external harddrive; chkdsk does not work.
You will have to format it. Format it in NTFS mode since it is high capacity drive. I think you are trying to use it for the first time. This also occurs if you have problem in hard drive but it is rare. Let me know after formatting, it is working or not. I will help you further.

Check to see if it shows up in "Disk Management".
Right-click My Computer >> Manage >> Disk Management.

If so, it may need to be formatted.

To format: Right-Click volume, and select format.

My maxtor external hard drive gives a beep sound when I plug it to my computer. The computer says "a new external hard is added to your compute"r but when I click on MY COMPUTER, it doen't...
1) click start
2) right click on "computer" or "my computer"
3) click manage
4) IF you get a user account control popup click yes
5) double click on storage
6) double click on disk management
7) identify your disk, it should be empty and most likely named "disk 1" or maxtor drive or something
8) right click on it and select format (quick format, default allocation size, NTFS)
9) voila!

My Transcend v30 pendrive is not working i had checked it in other computers but it was not working
Sometimes when a flashmemory stick or USB external hard drive fails because it was not removed fromthe USB port properly. If the device is removed byjust pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, youmust click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select thedevice you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so When the flash memoryUSB hard drive device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restoreit by reformatting it. Insert the flash or USB hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - AdministrativeTools - Computer Management - Disk Management. Then right click on Disk 1removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted itwill indicate that it is Healthy.

You will need to format the disk so the file structure can be read by your operating system. Formating the disk will wipe all data from the disk but will only need to be done once.

Good day!

1. Go to my computer and right click then click manage, go to disk management and see if your external harddisk is showed.If showed,then you can see the options there to manipulate your harddisk, either you format it or repartition.
2. You can use also a disk manager software to fully control the function.

Try to format it and see if the same error happens:
follow these steps below:
To format the mp3 player.
Go through: Setting>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk management>
Try to format it with fat files system or the file system you are used to.

Pen drive write protected
I have had the same prob and able to remove the write protected message by just unlocking the hold button. If this doesn't work there is formating software for each USB on the web. One can google and download it for free inorder to formate the USB
