I have a Sony Carl Zeiss Handycam (DCR-SX41) and Sony's Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum editer. When I connect my camera to my computer, however, my editor doesn't recognize it at all, and I can't put my camera's mpeg2 video files on it. Originally, I had Vegas Movie Studio 4.0, and I upgraded, without removing 4.0. When I tried to uninstall 4.0 (after 8.0 was already on my computer), it said: "Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I'm not sure if I need to uninstall the former Vegas editor, but I want to know why my 8.0 Platinum won't accept my new camera. When I try to put the files in the editor, it says there's a plug-in that needs to be register, and when I click the 'register' button to register it, it says it doesn't have the necessary features unlocked. Help!

hi i was having this problem and found on another site how to resolve it. open vegas 9 and go to help and then select SONT ON THE WEB and select LATEST UPDATES and download the 9.0b update that should hopefully resolve your problem. thanks

Try to use a cotton swap to 1st clean the recording lens or blow gently on it. Place an empty disc in, format the disc, record a little scene. Turn off camcorder. Place the error disc in the camcorder, turn on the camcorder all the way to play/edit. If this doesn't work turn it to record and try to record. Worked for some of my error disc

Oddly I have the oposite of this problem. I actually did find the drivers but now I need to find a software that will record the video off of it. I normally use MotionDV STUDIO but for some reason it won't detect this camera.
