Base unit inoperative

Hi.  I bought a Uniden 5.8 GHz cordless phone last December as a gift for my parents.  Last week, the base unit was determined by the phone company to be inoperative, rendering all the other phones dead.  When a different base unit is plugged in, the phone line then works.  The battery appears operational and takes a charge, and the display on the phone itself is working.  The phone technician didn't know what the problem could be, so I thought I'd check with you guys.  Any ideas?

Thanks for your suggestion for the service upgrade.  It turns out, however, that my problem was resolved although I can't fully explain how.  I was experimenting with various things, and at one point I placed a phone on the base unit, which came from a different Uniden set, not even of the same model.  Of course that phone didn't work, but when I retried the original one, it worked.  Although I originally did try cleaning off the connections between the phone and the base unit, I can only assume that something else was wrong with the connection, and this was corrected when I placed a different connection on it.  That doesn't explain, however, why the other phones from the set went dead when the base unit phone wasn't on the cradle.  So, may be it just a coincidence that the problem was resolved at that point, and it was just one of those "glitches".
Thanks for your help.

I bought a Uniden DECT 1035 last week and it has been working fine until yesterday when the screen went blank and only the status light was glowing. I charged it all night but still nothing has changed....

I would take it back to the store, there is a communication problem between the base and the remote phone, the only thing I can suggest is unplug the power and phone jack from the wall outlet for 30 seconds to see if the Uniden can reset.

I have a Uniden PowerMax 5.8 GHZ two-phone system and I dropped one of the phones in water. It worked for a little bit, but last night it shocked me and cut off my call and I do not want to use it anymore....

Basically yes, check where you bought it they may have 'defective' units (bases) that they might swap out with you. If time isn't a factor, contact Uniden, and tell them what happened re: getting shocked (hopefully the phone had a chance to dry out prior to you using it); if neither of these avenues work, you'll have to do an internet search to see what's available. Give the amounts of time and travel, it may be cheaper to replace the whole phone & base.

Hope this helps.

Cordless phone charginng

Uniden has historically had problems.

Shelf life prior to sale affects the phone. They over produce consequently letting unused inventories sit around and wear out before purchase.

With my last Uniden, the wire unravels on the inside and I was unaware and that was just last month.

I went out and bought a Vtech.
