Each players places his pieces on the same coloured squares in 3 rows of 8 each players take it in turns to move 1 piece in a diagonal direction. players may only move forwards initialy. the aim of the game is to take all the apponents pieces
to take an apponents piece you must jump the piece forwards & diagonaly, it must be on an adjacent square and you must land on an empty square and his piece/pieces are removed from the board. you can take more than 1 piece at a time as long as there is a space between them.
if you succeed in reaching the otherside of the board with 1 of your peices you may crown it normaly by placing a lost peice on top of it and it becomes a king. this piece can move in any dirrection diagonaly and take an apponents piece in any dirrection there is no limit to the number of kings allowed and a single peice may take a king
hope this helps
Backgammon playing pieces are known variously as checkers, draughts, stones, men, counters, pawns, discs, or chips.
The objective is to remove (bear off) all of one's own checkers from the board before one's opponent can do the same. The checkers are scattered at first and may be blocked or hit by the opponent. As the playing time for each individual game is short, it is often played in matches, where victory is awarded to the first player to reach a certain number of points.
