I've just had this same problem with my Sephy 740. Nothing helped until I disassembled the printer and realizing the small gear wheel (not visualized) at position in the red circle had loosened. Remounting the gear wheel on the shaft with a tiny drop of Blue Loctite and letting dry three hours, reassembling the printer and turning it on fixed the problem.
Same problem with mine, I took a small burr bit from my dremel set and roughed up the motor shaft. I then took a small drill bit and just using my fingers ran it inside the little plastic gear to scuff up the inside - that's when I noticed the little plastic gear was cracked between two plastic teeth on the one side. So I mixed up some epoxy, put it inside the gear and put the gear on the shaft, making sure that any epoxy that oozed out didn't fill in the space between the teeth where the crack was. Now I'm waiting for the epoxy to set... I'll give it a few hours, hope it will be fine :) I'll try to come back and let you all know!
Its a bit luck of the draw if it works. I've been able to get one going by gluing the gear on to the shaft though it sounded very rough, and another where the teeth seperated just too much and all it would do is jam at that point. I was able to replace the gear in both cases by butchering one of the stacked gears from an hitec HS-81 replacement gear set. cut away the larger gear from the stack and the remaining smaller one fits perfectly and runs smooth. It's a 10 tooth gear with a 1.5mm bore that is needed
@alex lowrie: Thanks a lot for the info! The gear set HS-81 worked perfectly! It was inexpensive (4$) and easy to find, even here in Sweden. I hesitated to replace it with a brass pinion, because if something breaks again, it would be the large wheel, which is much harder to replace.
Hi I have the same problem too with my selpy 740 where can I find this set of Hs-81 gears? thank you.
This gear set HS81 it's from HiTec servo tx RC models? Or oryginal canon parts?
Its recommend you use a copper gear. This doesnt crack anymore
please check, they are 2 different variants of the opinion gear (10 Teeth or 11 Teeth :https://www.hood.de/i/zahnrad-10t-gear-r...

Hello! I don't know if this is any help now, but I had the same problem with a Selphy CP740....the cartridge stuck inside and didn't came out. At my printer the problem was the small motor inside....the one that deals with the cartridge carriage. At the and of the axe it has a small gear, and this small gear get of the axe...causing the cartridge carriage stuck...so.....all you need to do is put that small gear back on the axe but first carefully put some good quality glue on the axe. Then assembly the printer back and all will work fine. This could happens by malfunction cartridge so it's best to replace the cartridge after you assembly the printer. All the best!
Replace the pulley (white gear) on the motor inside
I had to completely unscrew and disassemble the printer then cut or break the piece of plastic from the removable ink cassette that was blocking it from being removed. See attached pic.

Try cleaning the nozzle using the software that came with the printer, if it's been a while since you have printed, try cleaning the head with a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol.

OK. It sounds like there's something on the carriage bar restricting the movement of the ink carrier. Perhaps some ink got on the bar.
Try taking a clean lintfree rag dampened with rubbing alcohol and clean the bar. This may have to be repeated a number of times to get the foreign matter off the bar and the ink carriage.
Let me know if this helps. iF it does not we can try something else.
Thanks.

I doubt very much that you need to reset the printer, or, even if you did, that this would make much difference. It sounds as if there is a menu item which you should be able to bring up on the display which then allows you to release and extract the cartridge. I have scoured the web for information on this one and Canon, naturally, only supply the software, not the manual. If you have a manual can you look up and quote the relevant bit in it which deals with changing the cartridge? If there is nothing there which says that you have to go to a menu item to release it then it sounds like a mechanical problem - as in 'needs a bit of a yank'. I'll keep looking.

Don't waste your money getting it from the manufacturer, this uses a standard plug, you can get it at radio shack.
