Philips MX3700D Digital Surround Sound Receiver System System Questions & Answers
Cd tray won't open dependably
Get a tube of white lithium grease, and lubricate all the plastic parts that have to slide against or on other plastic or metal pieces in the mechanism.
Clean off the old grease first. Use a lint free cloth at first then q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol to do the cleaning.
Don't forger to grease the gears that you can get to as well, but it's mostly the parts that slide against each other that will need a good lube.
Now, if you have some Rubber Renu, wipe all the belts and rubber rollers down good - DO NOT GET RUBBER RENU ON ANYTHING PLASTIC !!!. If possible, replace any belts that look like they might be getting a bit stretched.
Once all that is done, the unit should be good for a few more years, for just a few dollars!
(distributors may still have rubber renu in stock and for sale...if you find any, use it sparingly and hang on to it for dear life...MG Chemicals has discontinued the product)
Philips Surround Sound w/ DVD and VHS
Well the dvd mechanism is probably broken now and that is the reason the system shutdown, philips can offer you a out of warranty exchange price to get it exchanged but they probably don't carry repair parts for this unit anymore, I would buy a new system
DVD PLAYER WILL NOT SPIN
Sounds like the disc transport(motor) or controller may be bad.
After the standard of unplug, wait, and try again, I think contacting a reputable repair center would be the next logical step.
Cost may outpace the value of the player, as many repair facilities want $60,00 as a base fee + parts. How much would it cost to replace the DVD player? >Costs have come down for all but the most esoteric models.
Only 2 of my 5 speakers are working
Press the SURR button until you get sound on all five speakers. If you don't get sound on all 5, there are a few possibilities:
1) the program you are watching only gets stereo sound or lower (only two or one speaker will play in this case)
2) you need to get a digital audio cable instead of using the red/white AV cable
3) a setting on the TV, cable, or satellite box needs to be changed to allow surround sound in full
I have a Philips Kitchen
The skipping problem you are experiencing may be related to the shaft that the laser assy rides on. It may need a little greasing with silicon grease, just a litte bit. Or it could be the spindle motor is wobbling as it turns. If you are a little tech savy, then you can order a new CD drive assy through Ebay and swap it out when it arrives. If you get this far you need to know how to remove the solder short on the new assy otherwise the new drive will not work.
