JVC GR-D250 Mini DV Digital Camcorder "rewind tape" Questions

rewinding on jvc grd850 I recently bought a jvc camcorder to take back home on from a trip overseas , only to find that after taping , i am unable to rewind what i have taped even though i am touching

rewind to play back, tape rewinds, but when play is pressed, nothing happens. The tape is moving forward (I have to rewind again), but no picture on the screen, or when I hook up to my computer. HELP!
