I get a picture while recording. Screen indicates that the camera is recording. When I rewind to play back, tape rewinds, but when play is pressed, nothing happens. The tape is moving forward (I have to rewind again), but no picture on the screen, or when I hook up to my computer. HELP!
I'm going on vacation Monday night, wouold LOVE to know how to fix this hopefully simple problem!
Usually if there is no impact injury involved or nagging intermittent past problems, you probably have a head cleaning issue. Try a dry type (reccomended) cleaning tape. Should be able to purchase at Best Buy or similar store.
Good luck,

You have a clogged video head. It happens. Do not use the chamois again. Instead, purchase an 8mm head cleaner and give that a try. Only use a brand name cleaner - no generics, and make sure it doesn't come from China!
try rewinding the tape and play it from the beginning.if still the same,video heads may be dirty and needs to be clean.i recommend you use a dry head cleaning tape.after which reinsert tape and play it again.if issue persists use a diff tape with previous recordings.if still no go,use new tape and try recording on it,play it back and check.if still the same your unit will require service.thanks:) hope this help.
a sony cleaning cassette may clear the gunk from
your friend ' s possibly ? bad tapes ( do not
rewind it - or the gunk will be redeposited ) ;
if still no video , get an estimate to have your
heads and guides cleaned . . . professionally ;
Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.
I have been experiencing the same problem with my Panasonic PV-GS120. I don't know the root cause or real solution, but I found if I keep playing the tape, rewind->play->rewind->play, eventually I would get the image back normal.
I think I would try to clean up header with a header cleaner to see if it helps or not. If not, I plan to submit a request to Panasonic support to check out possible solution.
Good luck.
