My check engine light came on and car was missing.Had a tune up and filters changed.problem solved for 3-4 days and it came back but without the missing. Took it to dealer and he blew out carbon deposits and said if it comes back it could be the catalytic converter.it came back so I tried switching to hi test gas and it went away after 2 tank fulls. It comes back if I try regular plus but goes away when I switch back to hi test after 2-3 tank fulls. What can it be?
My check engine light came on again so I brought it to a mechanic. He said sparkplug is misfiring but for some reason he can't remove it,It may cost $1200 to remove head and drill it out and retap threads. He reset the light and car is running fine again. If the plug is bad shouldn't the car still be running bad? I will bring it back to mechanic that did the tune up and see if he will remove plug since it may be his fault it won't come out.My check engine light came on again so I brought it to a mechanic. He said sparkplug is misfiring but for some reason he can't remove it,It may cost $1200 to remove head and drill it out and retap threads. He reset the light and car is running fine again. If the plug is bad shouldn't the car still be running bad? check the motor mounts. also check to make sure that its not miss firing. if its miss firing could be as simple as just needing a tune up. if engine light is on it is most likely misfiring and needs a tune up. if its jerking when you put it in gear this is a problem with the transmission. if its an automatic you may need to change the transmission fluid filter and gasket. if you can do this yourself it will run you about 40 bucks
Does this mechanic have a dianostic scan tool for your vehicle, so he can read the trouble codes. And he can reset the mil light using the scan tool.It is possible for somebody to not be paying enough attention to what they are doing and gap the plugs wrong or drop one and damage it.But if he did that and still put them in then you might want to find a new mechanic. It should not have went back to you if it still had a problem the first time.
It depends on whether you have the optional Driver Information Center or not.
If not, turn the key to the "ON" position, without starting the engine. Press the accelerator pedal to the floor and release three (3) times within five (5) seconds, then turn the key OFF. If the oil change light comes back on when you start the engine, it did not reset, and you will have to try again.
If you have the optional Driver Information Center (DIC), turn the key to the "ON" position, without starting the engine, Press the MODE button on the DIC until it reads "OIL LIFE LEFT/HOLD SET TO RESET", then press and hold the SET button until 100% is is shown. You will hear three (3) chimes, and the "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" light will go off. Turn the key to "OFF".
That's it.
And yes, every car with spark plugs, filters, etc. "takes" a tune-up.
remove the plug from the #1 cylinder, and install it into the #2 cylinder , and put plug from # 2 clyinder in to #1 plug hole, connect plug wires, and start up vehichle, and if computer shows misfire on # 2 cylinder , then you have a bad plug, possibly porcelin insulator could have a hair line crack in it, hope that this information has helped you.

if you have a bad spark plug wire, it will draw condensation and make engine run rough.... you can check this by getting a spray bottle and filling it with water, spray a mist over top of the wires while the car is running, and if one is bad it will show.... (looks like little lightning coming off of wire) .... hope this helps
