you can try e-bay, sometimes you can find factory manuals up for bid. You may even be able to
order one through a Honda dealer if is still available, but it may be pricey.

when the lights dim is the bike idleing or is it above 2000 rpm if its ideling its not producing enough power back to battery so it will dim the lights. rev it up a little and see what happeneds

while trying to start an engine, and only the solenoid clicks, there are these 3 things- no juice from the battery, starter corroded contacts(the big cables) or starter is shot. so first make sure the battery is charged, next make sure the cable mounts from battery to starter are clean(no rust), if that is all good and doesnt start , remove starter and have it tested.

Check the compression before tearing it down - the cylinder with the water will probably come up low.
It's very likely that the head gasket has failed. As a result (or the cause) it's also likely that the head has warped, it'll need skimming before rebuilding the motor

Incredible amount of info on Honda GLs all sizes.
As for the lamps.. Take the old ones as samples with you to "any" reputable brand name auto parts store including the likes of Walmart or Sears and walk up to the parts counter. They will walk you to the isle and hand you the correct light bulbs. It is a whole lot cheaper than going to any HONDA any dealer.
Brake light is an 1157 for sure.
