Most transmissions go into a fail safe mode to prevent damage to transmission but you can still damage it if you keep driving it. Most related codes are due to speed sensors. But you will have to look up what the code means exactly.
sounds like one of your solenoid in the valve body is bad, if you.are able to shift it.by yourself, then it could be a.solenoid, but also.check your transmission fluid to make sure its full, check when transmission fluid is hot, either in park or neutral, your owners manual will tell you which.way to check it, sometimes on the.dipstick it will say how to.check it to.
I have a Honda 350 4 wheeler model trx350 4x4 ex I was riding put away the next morning I went out I could not get the auto reverse to shift. I can use the manual shift. All the forward shifts work any ideas
First make sure the shift lever is properly in the park position. Hondas tend to have little problem in that area after a few years.
Second make sure battery terminals are clean and secure. Next you should try jumping the battery. A low battery may produce enough electricity to run the radio, lights, chimes etc but not enough to crank engine.
I have the same problem with my 2001 rancher. I havent quite figured out how to fix the problem, but temporarily you can use a 12mm wrench to manually downshift to neutral. Then turn the key off and back on again will usually reset the system. Some believe that having good strong battery will help keep the electrical system from malfunctioning. Also some people suggest replacing the angle sensor if you already have a strong battery. those are common failures. beyond that its trial and error with the other electrical sensors and shifter parts. If you know how to use a multimeter you could download the honda repair and troubleshooting manual from the honda atv forums. several members have posted the link. Until your shift issues are resolved i would suggest investing in the $15 emergency shifter
