Hi,
your description is a bit generic. No mention of mileage covered and no mention of miles covered between the prior and the "late' oil change. However, based on your statement, I would venture to say that your engine and rod bearings are now a problem. Should I be correct, further operation of the vehicle will result in crankshaft damage,, and possible engine siezure.

If the rattle you describe is "light' but becomes "heavy" as you give it gas, then it's the mains that have gone. If it's light, and just rattles with more intensity when you give it gas, then it's the rod bearings that have gone.

I would love to be proven wrong::))

I was given a 95 chevy s10. It is old and I decided to get the fluids changed. They changed the oil and oil filter and checked everything else. Said all others looked fine. When it's cold runs...

First issue is you have to find the rattle. No way to tell off your explanation what the rattle is. It could be the fan clutch (which is bad if it lets loose at 2500 rpms), you could have a huge number of little leaks of oil from anywhere on the motor causing the smoke. Its older either find someone to fix or try and fix the issues as you find them or it will get worse.

Good luck.

2001 chevy silverado hd. oil pressure dropped to 0 then rose to about half of what its supposed to be. Now rattling like crazy. Oil pump?

Oil pump is what it sounds like to me. I hope it hasn't ran much since all of it started as you can cause internal damage such as rod and main bearings which can grow to even worse problems. Wouldn't run it until I took a look at it if I were you. I hope this helped and good luck.

My tribute started making a clicking/rattling noise near the belt that has gotten louder within a day. It is not the oil. Would you have an idea of what it could be?

Drive belt needed to be replaced on mine... Mazda dealership told me that the manufacturer knows that the drive belt is not strong enough... when I ran the air conditioner it was horrible sounding!!! It took the dealership repair 2 days to figure it out!
