Rattling noise v8 5.3L engine. There is a rattling noise coming from the front of my truck that sounds like an aluminum can running against the ground or something. It does it when I start up but kind of dies down and then when I accelerate, it does it. Oil levels seem to be fine and oil has been changed recently. Any ideas?

Some of the 5.3 had piston slap that would go away as the engine warmed up, Some run forever some get noisier,My 2000 Chevy Silverado had to have a rebuild done. The newer engines have less of a piston skirt to them.

SOURCE: Engine Making Noise when accelerating

Could be carbon build-up on the pistons, causing erratic flame travel in the combustion chamber... 'pinging'...... Decarbon the engine and use a high grade fuel for a few tanks.... also an octane booster can help

SOURCE: 04 Endeavor rattling noise

I had the same problem! I crawled underneath the car and discovered that a heat shield on the exhaust header pipe was corroded and rattling against the exhaust pipe. (Before the muffler)
I removed the portion and clamps and solved the problem. Give it a try.

SOURCE: Loud ticking/knocking/rattling sound when I start/accelerate

hi is it miss-firing as it sounds like a knocking noise can be anything but if you can feel it on the accelerater pedal then the noise sounds like its on the inlet valve side which would transfere the noise up the throttle body where the accelerater is located it could be something as simple as a tappet come loose to a burned valve you need to have a look do a compression test and take the rocker cover off see if theres anything come loose yates210456

SOURCE: 2000 Audi A4 quattro with abrupt gear shifting & low oil pressure

I hope that you had the proper weight oil installed, at your oil change. If your oil is up to the proper level, and it's rattling ,this is VERY bad. White smoke usually means steam in the exhaust, and that means a blown head gasket. Check your coolant level. I wouldn't drive it anymore......until someone knowledgeable can diagnose it!!!!!

2005 ford focus c-max 16V Zetec-S SHDC L4 belt or chain ?

there are 2 engines 2.0 / 2.3 and they both have chains if you are getting a rattling sound from the cover front the guides are worn or the chain tensioner are worn the guides have nylon chain runners on them and if they wear down the chain is rubbing against the metal arm that the nylon is mounted on if this is a high mileage motor I would suspect this because the chain can not be kept tight because of the worn guides have now caused the chain to be slack and its rubbing against the front engine cover but you must be sure before opening it up that its not the water pump or belt tensioner pulleys making the noise if that's what your hearing the water pump will sound like a marble tumbling around in a can the pulley's will sound like constant friction grinding of the dry bearing inside against the bearing race there also may be a chirping sound of the belt being made from it grabbing each time the bearing catches inside and releases the chain will sound like a constant rattling as if you drag a metal chain on a ceramic tile floor and engine running condition will be rough idling and missing a bit especially when you come to an abrupt stop it may stall

My Lincoln Continental 2000 Model oil light came on engine stopped after 25 feet. would not restart even though oil full. The car started the next day, but had a rattling sound at the top of the motor

Oil light is rather important it goes out if oil pressure is good comes on if oil pressure is low when it comes on damage is expected with continued operation like wearing of main bearings and pistons and cylinders can lead to a engine rebuild

I have a rattling noise on my 2.8 mitsubhishi pajero 1997 model.the noise is at the front of the engine. i checked the timing chain and guides they look ok and tight.when i rev the noise get quiet but when...

its likely the fan. if it sounds like metal clicking or grinding, its the fan bearings.

it could also simply be the plastic fan case rattling/rubbing against another hood accessory.

Sounds like an aluminum can is rattling in the muffler?

Probably the aluminum heat shield between the muffler and the floor pan is rattling. Against something. Easy fix at muffler shop, should cost less than $50 to repair.

Rattling noise when I press the gas pedal or when the vehicle is running idle.

Hi,
Likely an exhaust heat shield. When the SUV is cold - after sitting for 4+ hours - crawl under the vehicle and see if any of the shields are loose that cover the exhaust pipes. If they are you can use sheet metal screws screwed into the shield and against the exhaust pipeto 'wedge' the shield so it doesn't move.

My jeep is making a rattling noise in the front by the grill. What could this be? Someone said it might be my blower?

It could be something as simple as the fan blades rubbing up against the fan shroud or it could be the idler pulley bearings going bad and making a distinct rattling sound. I've seen them rattle till they break off, releasing the engine belts and stranding the vehicle. Have them checked out to see if they have bearing play, are worn and maybe need replacing.

Rattling noise from front near alternator

Hi.
I think the problem is the power take off for the front fan ,steering etc. Underneath the middle of the car you will see what looks like a small propshaft pointing towards the front with a doughnut shapped mounting bolted to each end. These rubber joints wear and rattle on tick over or low revs cost is about £40 for the 2 from Japarts
Takes about 2 hours to change.Hope this helps Good luck
