How do I separate the impeller/basket housing from the motor in the Davey Silensor pool pump?

I have it all stripped down but can't undo the big screwed collar/clamp that joins the units together.

That big collar sitting between the pump and motor body unscrews in an anti clock wise direction when looking at it from the rear (of the motor). The collar may be on rather tight and there is likely some special tool available to help unscrew these big collars (but who has all these special tools).

In my case, with my SLS-200, I placed a block of hardwood resting on a collar rib and then carefully tapped the wood to loosen the big collar. It needed gentle tapping while moving the wood to other lugs before it was loose enough to undo by hand. The problem is that if you tap too ******* one lug, or tap for too long on one lug, the lug itself may break but the collar will still be OK and fully usable dispite a few broken lugs.

Note that there is a big O-ring that sits inside the collar so best to inspect it for damage and also ensure that the pump body and collar threads are clean and that the mating surfaces where the O-ring sits are free from scratches or debris (to ensure it wont leak when reassembled). A new big O-ring may or may not be required depending on it's condition.

How do I break down pool motor aol 1-1/2 hp

It depends which pump you have, on hayward super II you shut off the breaker, remove the rear motor cover, disconnect the electrical wires, then remove the 4 (9/16")bolts holding the motor to the "wet end" which is where the basket is. Now, pop off the diffuser, sometimes it stays in the wet end when you remove the motor. At the rear of the motor, use a 12mm wrench to hold the shaft, then unscrew the impeller (counter-clockwise) after removing the impeller, theres another plastic plate that lifts off, remove the plate, now there are 4 (9/16")bolts to remove in order to separate the motor from the seal plate. You have now broken down the pump. If you replace the motor, make sure to get a new seal as well (ps201)

I have a Davey pool pump and there sounds like a stone is in the impeller how do I open it and clean it out

The easiest way to check would be to put your fingers or a thin but long object through the hole at the bottom of the pump basket which leads to the impeller. Make sure the impeller turns. If the impeller turns there is nothing stuck in it. More than likely the bearings have gone bad which is common. Any small motor repair facility should be able to fix this or your local pool man.

How to unclog a shellback laundrytray pump 3 -12-19

1) disconnect power and place towels etc underneath everything
2) break discharge pipe(should be a union fitting for servicing)
3) undo big brass nut under sink basket
4) undo 4 hex head bolts holding pump housing together(sometime can be picked out via inlet and discharge
5) Dont try and take impeller off as the ceramic washer may come off and then you got to get a new one. If motorshaft is rusty, time for a new motor, seal and probably an impeller seal. ceramic impeller seal is epoxied on the impeller

Need to remove the impeller

Turn off the system at the breaker,
Undo bolts for housing and separate the motor from the pump to access the impeller. Some styles of motors have a screw that is reverse threaded holding the impeller in place, if it has one , remove the screw. Once you have access to the impeller you can use a big pair of channel locks to turn the impeller. Take off the back cover of the motor or remove the plastic or metal cap that is covering the shaft. Use a wrench to hold the back end of the shaft as you unscrew the impeller.

My hayward super II pump output return pressure to the pool is very low.. The PSI readings seem normal and I can't see any visible blockings... How else can I test? What can be the problem?

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Start with the impeller and strainer baskets. Excessive debris in the basket(s) in front of the pump can reduce flow rates. Another possibility is debris lodged in the impeller vanes. If the baskets do not solve your problem shut down your pump and back out the 6 bolts holding the motor into the pump housing. Pull out the pump end and remove the diffuser covering the impeller (sometimes the diffuser sticks inside the housing and the impeller will already be uncovered). Use a zip tie or something else of similar strength to run thru each vane looking for things such as small toys, marbles, rocks, mulch etc. Once cleared reassemble the pump being careful to align the diffuser back over the impeller and into the pump housing correctly.

If nothing can be found in the impeller and the baskets are all cleaned and still you have reduced return pressure you will have to get into your filter to find the trouble. If you get that far, please post a comment with what brand and model filter you have for more guidance.

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

How do you separate the motor from the housing?

Remove the bolts in the back of the plastic strainer housing, that will take the basket assembly off the pump.
The diffuser/ should be visible, this simply pops off with a little twist. The impeller should be now be visible
Remove the metal cap from the back of the pump.
Remove the rubber cap on the back of the motor under the metal case, (may not have one)
You will see a the back of the motor shaft and a slot that a flat head screw driver fits into.
Now is a tricky part that is somewhat dangerous.
You need to hold the impeller and turn that motor shaft with the screwdriver counter clockwise. It's best to hold the impeller with a rag for a better grip. You need to make sure you're using a beefy screwdriver that fits that slot well, or you might slip and jab yourself with the screwdriver.
It is tough to remove. Be careful.
Once the impeller is removed, you will see the seal plate, the bolts for this are on the back out the motor mount plate and can be removed with little effort.
You should now be down to a just a motor.
You may need to buy a replacement seal, as they tend to fall apart once tampered with.
