What possible way can check to tell if my overnight battery drain is due to the diode sticking? Is there a test or a tip you could offer? The battery is new and the alternator tested ok.

This is a convertible, I have also noticed issues from time to time on the sound system control panel and info system

A diode doesn't "stick". Either one of your circuits is using battery overnight, the battery is defective, or it's not charging.

Assuming the battery is "good", pull all of the fuses overnight. If it's good in the morning, put all the fuses back in, and next night leave one in. Next night, the next fuse, etc.

Once you know which circuit is draining your battery, you can troubleshoot further.

Battery runs down over night.

A glove box light will drain a battery over night or it could be a bad diode in your alternator. Disconnect the red wire from the alternator and check with a volt meter.
tip

Draining of car battery charge

My tip is for all makes and models of vehicles
It is a common fault these days are more and more extra fittings are loaded to the cars and when proper precautions are not taken it will end up to fault the system.
Hence in case of a battery drain overnight try these checks.

You must check the drain current on your battery after the engine is switched off. The best way to check this out is to connect an ammeter in series to the battery and check. There can be a permissible limit of few milli amps but a large drain can in about 12 hours ( overnight) fully drain the battery no matter how much you have charged it or the system charged it up.
Now disconnect one by one the circuits to centre on the faulty circuit and then the faulty device. This is easy as the fuse can be pulled out one by one till the ammeter reading drops down.
Now it is always possible that directly connected circuits like Clocks, audio/video systems, remote control units , brake lamps park lamp circuits can be possible problem areas.
After the device is identified and battery must be charged up fully and tested overnight.

Dodge truck battery drains overnight. new battery installed

Seen this "mystery drain" many times. Check spark at the battery to see how big the drain is. For this simple test, blow away any (explosive) battery charging fumes. Leave one terminal on and gently touch the other to its post in fairly dark surroundings. Then try it again with the wires taken off the alternator. Your spark is now probably much less. Usually bad diodes leaking electricity backwards through the alternator cause this drain. Replace the alternator or the diode pack inside it. Some mechanics recommend actually measuring the drain.... hahaha. OK whatever.

Why does my 96 Cadillac Eldorado battery keep discharging?

First step have the battery tested, a bad cell can cause a internal drain and kill the battery, if the batt is ok then check for interior lights like visors that stay on or interior light that come on by themselves at night due to defective door switches.

My 98 lumina has a constant power draw from somewhere. I just replace the battery and had the alt tested (it was good). I have to jump the dang thing every morning but if I drive it enough during the day...

The alternator may charge fine but could drain the battery through a bad diode, have you checked the alt for a bad diode?Disconnect the battery positive cable.Put a regular 12v test light between the battery positive post and the positive battery cable. If the test light is bright you do have a drain,if dim it is OK.A dim light may mean the drain is internal in the battery. If you do have a bright light remove a fuse ,one at a time from the fuse box until the light goes dim.Once dim you have identified the bad circuit. If removing all fuses do not dim the light, disconnect the alt charging wire at the alt,if that dims the light, then you do have a bad diode.DO NOT create a drain(bright light) when checking for the drain by turning on the key or opening a door/trunk etc.
Also,do an overnight battery check by disconnecting the battery overnight,if things are fine the next morning after the battery was disconnected then it is a drain in the vehicle,if the battery is dead even after being disconnected overnight,,then the battery is bad.

I have 2 problems 1. my low coolent light keeps flashing an staying on its full of fluid an 2. good battery in car changed altinator an now the battery wont hold a charge what could the problem be

The switch in the coolant tank that turns the light on can stick due to contamination from old coolant.Replace this switch,or leave it disconnected. If your battery drains overnight, there is likely a draw, possibly trunk ot glove box light on.If the problem started when the alternator was replaced,it could be a shorted diode in the alternator.

Something is draining my car battery 2002 monte carlo

How old is your battery? You can check subsystems one at a time by removing fuses one at a time overnight, accessories, ignition, etc.. This may lead you in the direction of the problem. It is possible that the diodes in your alternator are bad. This would cause a slow drain where your car may start after a day, but not after a few days. One of the auto parts stores should be able to test this for you.

My range rover baterk keeps going flat overy nighy

if the battery goes flat overnight but works fine when driving there are only two possibilities. either the battery is faulty and not holding charge or there is a current drain on the electrical system when standing. have your battery drop tested if ok check that current drain does not exceed 50 miliamps with everything switched off . common causes of drain are boot lamps, glove box lamps, faulty relays, faulty cigarette lighter sockets, and leaky diodes in alternator. to check for these try pulling fuses one at a time to find the faulty circuit. hope this helps
