When does the red heat light come on and when does it shut back off

will not blew very good heat and shut down with stop light came on it dose work for 30min after i drain the water but it go back to the stop light again then the will for about1min or so then it shut again

bad joint remove back panel with tv off check for any bad joints on power board also caused by thermal fault with tv on use a heat source over boards till tv shuts down then check suspect board

it sounds like its over heating.clean all the fans ,put new artic paste on the cpu

Are you seeing any flashing red/yellow lights?

If so this is the red light error and you will find that is why the system will not turn on.

Why Does It Happen?

The GPU and the CPU are the 2 main chips in the system and they deal with all of the number crunching however they can get very hot and if they lose connection the system will either freeze up or turn off and give you the red flashing light.

How To Fix?

The key is stopping the heat build up and you can either send it in and they will fix it for you.

Bear in mind that for the PS3 red flashing light error you will be waiting for about 4 weeks and it will also cost you $150 for the repair bill!

the xbox 360 is overheating. Try to clean the vents and have it elevated off carpet or anyhtign that will not allow it to get a airflow.

Check the fans in the back of the 360 to be sure they are running ok and not blocked up.

do you get a yellow light? i bet you do..

1)Turn off your playstation 3. If you think your ps3 has been caught by the heat, then wait at least 20 minutes and put it back on again
2) Check if there's any loose cable.
3) Try to put out your playstation's hard-drive, and put it back in. You might want to repeat this 2-3 times for better results.

If this did not work
Send your playstation back to Sony

Two possibility , first the 1of the heat sinks may have lost it's thermal seal
to the chips ie G.P.U. or C.P.U. this is more common when consoles
are played vertically . Second but less common the G.P.U. temp feed
connection has become intermittent and tripping a thermal shut down.

Remedy's are

Remove heat sinks for G.P.U. and the C.P.U clean off the old heat sink
compound and replace with new ( articsilver 5 ).

If the console still over heats ( two red lights) then the G.P.U C.P.U
will need to be re-flowed back to the board that normally corrects
the problem in 90% of over heating problems.

Over heat problem caused internal hardware failure. Sony claims it can't be fixed and your PS3 is one in a million. Only temp fix is available. Heat caused the problem and heat will fix the problem. You need to heat the motherboard with heat gun and bring to using 500 degrees, after evenly heating board, go to 650 degrees and focus on the cpu and gpu. let cool and put back together. similiar to the xbox red ring of death. Hey did you try a hard reset?
Shut the system off then turn it on.
You should now have the red light on the ps3.
Hold the power on and it will kick green beep then go back to red.
Then try to push power again.
If not it may be the heat transfer compound in the system which is wearing away causing it to over heat and shut down as a safety percaution.

I heated up board with hair dryer through back of TV without taking back cover off. The heat was on high for approx. 5min. and was placed on right side of TV about 1/3 up from bottom.
