Engine is noisy with a whirrr

I have a 2003 shadow spirit. I bought it used with 23 k on it. The engine sounds vey noisy and with the clutch in there is this loud whirr that I hear even on the hyway. When I accelerate hard it sounds like theres alot of (very tinny) sounds coming from the motor. Other spirits sound alot quieter There are other "rattles" coming from the motor. Other than that seems to run fine, just cant take the noise anymore and I'm worried that it might be gearbox trouble. I use mobil 1 20 / 50 synth oil for bikes. The bike looks new and is in mint shape but I'm suspicious the previous owners might have driven it a little hard. Any suggestions as to what it could be? Thanks,, Sixstringsam

How do you check coolant in a 2003 750 Shadow Spirit?

With the engine cold , take off the radiator cap and if necessary top it off. Use only a non-silica antifreeze like Honda or GM Dexcool. Put the cap back on and top off the overflow bottle (to the high mark).

I have a 2003 honda shadow spirit vt1100c and it won't start, the headlight comes on but it won't turn over

These bikes are notorious for doing this. You must have a good battery to start these engines. I had a '94 VT1100 Shadow and it did the same thing. I bought a new battery and that solved the problem. Take you battery out and take it to an automotive parts house. They'll usually test the battery for you free of charge. Back when I had my Shadow, the only people that made the battery was Yuasa and it was that Yumacron battery. Expensive but it made the bike start well. Good Luck!
