First check your fuses blind if not the problem then it's probably the heat from the bulb. Badly designed rear light assembly. Bulb melts plastic around points. You can try (A) solution which might only be temporary, or (B) buy a new, improvedrear light assembly for around $40. (A) 1) The cause of the problem is heat from the bulb. 2) Remove the light assembly as if you were going to change a bulb. 3) Turn the socket and remove it from the taillight assembly and set it aside(check to be sure your bulb is not burnt out). 4) Look at the opening, you will see 3 flat chrome colored contacts on the assembly. 5) Notice the one by it self at the top of the opening, that is the “ground”. 6) If you look closely you will notice the plastic around the ground contact has shrunk a little bit, this caused the contact to pull away from the socket, causing the problem. 7) With a small flat head screwdriver, VERY GENTLY pry up the contact so it stays slightly upward by itself. 8) Re-insert the bulb assembly back into the housing and press your brake petal with your lights on. 9) You should be in good to go! 10) Tools: Phillips head screwdriver and a small flat head screwdriver. 11) Time : 5 minutes per light (B) http://www.amazon.com/TYC-11-5276-00-Cherokee-Replacement- Assembly/dp/B0031I3TNI/ref=lh_ni_t_mi? ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AHIM67Z9GO6HA
I have no idea what type of vehicle you have. BUT, here are some things you can try. (1) Turn the heads on and mess with the dimmer switch turning to high beam and low beams and if the head lights pop on and off again, then replace the switch. (2) Check all the fuses to see if one has blown, if you find one blown replace it and see if the headlamps work. (3) Check to see if the bulbs are good, you may have to buy one bulb just to see if it might be both bulbs bad. NOTE: If you find all these things to be good then buy the headlamp switch and replace it. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website here: http://www.bigasautorepair.com/
If it is on the passenger side of the truck then you must remove the battery and you will see and opening that will allow you to depress the clip on the wiring and then you need to rotate the bulb to pull it out of the mounting. To assemble just do the reverse of this. If that doesn't work. You can remove the front grille and the mounting for the head light assembly has 4 bolts and you can dismount the assembly from the truck and change the bulb. If you do remove the grille be sure not to deal with the headlight aiming screws. The 4 screws being removed will not mess up the aiming of the head lights. Hope this helps.
This is the corrective method for your brake lights not working when your headlights are on your 2000 Jeep Cherokee 1) The cause of the problem is heat from the bulb. 2) Remove the light assembly as if you were going to change a bulb. 3) Turn the socket and remove it from the taillight assembly and set it aside(check to be sure your bulb is not burnt out). 4) Look at the opening, you will see 3 flat chrome colored contacts on the assembly. 5) Notice the one by it self at the top of the opening, that is the "ground". 6)
If you look closely you will notice the plastic around the ground
contact has shrunk a little bit, this caused the contact to pull away
from the socket, causing the problem. 11) Time : 5 minutes per light
The other option is to change the entire tail light assembly to correct your problem.
I having a same problem as you. I have changed Head light (general head light 12V 37W) I plug out inverter connector and connect 12V 37W bulb directly It works fine.
2) On the inside jam there are two torx headed screws (T-15's if I
remember correctly).
3) Unscrew the two torx screws.
4) The light is now held by two mounting tabs (small spherical headed
plastic sets that go through a rubber grommet).
5) You will need to pry the light casing off (easy pressure with a good
size flat head screw driver will do the trick).
6) The light bulbs are twist mount settings inside the light casing.
7) Twist out the mount setting, change the bulbs, and reset the light
mountings.
8) To put the light casing push the light casing back on and put in the
screws. Everything else will work in reverse when it comes to assembling the
whole unit.

This is problem cant be solved by changing head light. You need to replace wiring of your bike. This problem is occur because of short-circuit in wiring.
POSSIBLY BAD DOOR SWITCH OR AT LEAST THE PART OF IT THAT TURNS LIGHT ON AND OFF. IT SHOULD BE A 3 BLADE SWITCH 1 ON ONE END AND 2 ON OTHER OR YOU HAVE NOT SCREWED BULB IN FAR ENOUGH. i HAD TO CHANGE MY BULB TOO WHEN NEW ONE INSTALLED I DIDN'T TURN IT FAR ENOUGH IT WAS STIFF GETTING IT IN.
